The Department of Homeland Security, or DHS, reported a staggering increase in assaults against Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE, law enforcement officers. According to DHS statistics, from January 21 to November 21, the agency documented 238 assaults on ICE officers. This figure marks a stark increase from just 19 incidents reported during the same period in the previous year.

Officials at DHS attribute this surge to the inflammatory rhetoric emerging from so-called sanctuary jurisdictions. They caution that such language can incite additional violence against law enforcement personnel.

Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin expressed her concerns: “Sanctuary politicians need to tone the rhetoric down before a law enforcement officer is killed. They should express gratitude to these brave officers who risk their lives every single day to apprehend dangerous criminals, including pedophiles, rapists, and gang members.”

Several reported incidents illustrate the dangerous conditions under which ICE officers operate. In September, an individual identified as Henry Isaul Garcia allegedly reversed his vehicle into an ICE agent’s leg during an attempted arrest in Homestead, Florida, nearly causing severe injury.

Earlier during the summer, a former U.S. Marine named Benjamin Hanil Song purportedly participated in an organized ambush at the Prairieland Detention Center. This assault involved at least ten individuals who opened fire on federal officers.

In June, another incident involved fugitive Eric Anthony Rodriguez, who reportedly attempted to launch a Molotov cocktail at officers. This occurred at a hotel near Los Angeles International Airport, where multiple ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers were present. Rodriguez’s criminal history includes multiple convictions, showcasing the serious threats faced by law enforcement.
