From the majestic Rocky Mountains to the serene shores of the Pacific Ocean, America’s breathtaking natural beauty has long inspired generations. These iconic landscapes have drawn adventurers, settlers, and preservationists alike. Unfortunately, the overwhelming noise of political polarization has overshadowed our shared appreciation for nature. Today, environmental concerns are often framed by partisan lines, yet Americans across the political spectrum remain passionate about protecting our planet.
In the early 1990s, nearly 80% of Americans identified as environmentalists, according to Gallup polls. But as political discourse has intensified, the environment has become a battleground for party politics, resulting in paralysis and division. Conservative voices often feel marginalized in environmental discussions, while progressive elements dominate the narrative. This scenario has left many Americans feeling disillusioned and frustrated.
Recent surveys reveal a widespread commitment to environmental causes, irrespective of political affiliation. For instance, 95% of voters express concern about protecting the water in lakes and rivers. Similarly, 93% believe that clean energy is vital for our future. Furthermore, the importance of sustainable agricultural practices is supported by 88% of the population, while 82% favor federal funding to mitigate wildfire threats. These statistics demonstrate a clear consensus on environmental issues that current political leaders seem to ignore.
Many Americans are weary of the extreme voices that dominate the environmental movement. People yearn for a constructive approach that prioritizes common sense and tangible solutions over ideological battles. Nature deserves to be at the forefront of our collective agenda, untethered from divisive political strife.
Recognizing the need for a more inclusive environmental dialogue, I founded Nature Is Nonpartisan, a nonprofit dedicated to transcending partisan divides and fostering a collaborative spirit in conservation. Our mission is to unite diverse political perspectives in a shared commitment to environmental stewardship.
With a Board of Directors that includes former public officials across the political spectrum, we aim to build a coalition that advocates for commonsense conservation. Our members include individuals such as David Bernhardt, former Department of the Interior Secretary under President Trump, and Michael Brune, former CEO of the Sierra Club. This blend of influences strengthens our resolve to promote environmental issues in a nonpartisan manner.
On March 20, 2025, Nature Is Nonpartisan will formally launch its initiative in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, known as the geographic center of the country. We invite Americans from all backgrounds and political beliefs to join us in this momentous occasion. The event will feature influential speakers, celebrities, and politicians who share our vision of a unified approach to environmentalism.
South Dakota’s Governor, Larry Rhoden, has pledged to proclaim the first-ever Nature Is Nonpartisan Week, emphasizing the importance of collaborating across party lines. We will spotlight local leaders who exemplify dedication to conserving their environments, breaking the mold of traditional partisanship in advocacy.
For America to achieve meaningful and sustainable environmental progress, we require an organization that remains steadfast regardless of the administration in power. Unlike traditional environmental groups that often focus on critiquing current policies, Nature Is Nonpartisan is dedicated to creating real impacts over the next four years.
Former President Donald Trump has a unique opportunity to establish a conservation legacy akin to that of Theodore Roosevelt. By prioritizing federal investments in conservation, wildlife preservation, and sustainable agriculture, he can lead a transformative movement to make America’s natural beauty flourish once again.
Making America beautiful again transcends political ideology. It involves constructing a framework for bipartisan legislation that prompts action within key governmental agencies. Moreover, it will open pathways for collaboration between environmental NGOs and the Trump Administration.
At Nature Is Nonpartisan, we envision a future where people unite around their mutual love for the environment, setting aside political differences. The time has come to move beyond divisive rhetoric and work towards a healthier planet for future generations. By prioritizing environmental conservation, we pave the way for a brighter future.
Ultimately, the future of nature is now. The future of environmental advocacy lies in nonpartisan collaboration that fosters genuine commitment to our planet’s well-being.
