A Delta Air Lines flight was hastily evacuated shortly before its scheduled takeoff at Orlando International Airport in Florida on Monday. This action followed reports of flames erupting from one of the aircraft’s engines, as the airline confirmed to Fox News Digital.
Delta Flight 1213 was preparing for its journey from Orlando to Atlanta when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses inside the airport captured dramatic footage showing passengers swiftly using the emergency slides to exit the plane. Just moments afterward, flames became visible, shooting from the plane.
The aircraft in question, an Airbus A330, was carrying approximately 200 passengers, alongside 10 flight attendants and two pilots. A Delta representative provided these details in a statement to Fox News Digital.
The visible fire affected the tailpipe of one of the aircraft’s two engines. In accordance with established safety protocols, the flight crew initiated an evacuation of the passenger cabin upon noticing the flames, a Delta spokesperson stated.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries among the passengers and crew. Following the evacuation, the passengers returned to the terminal where Delta provided food and beverages as they awaited further instructions. The airline stated that the affected passengers would be rebooked onto a different aircraft for their travel to Atlanta.
In response to the situation, a Delta representative expressed gratitude toward the passengers for their cooperation. They emphasized that safety remains the airline’s top priority, noting, “Nothing is more important than safety, and Delta teams will work tirelessly to ensure our customers reach their final destinations as swiftly as possible.”
The fire on the aircraft was reportedly contained and extinguished shortly after the evacuation. The airport released a statement confirming that all safety measures were promptly followed.
The cause of the engine fire remains unknown at this time. Delta has stated that its maintenance teams will conduct a thorough inspection of the aircraft to uncover any issues that may have led to the incident.
The Federal Aviation Administration has also announced that it will initiate an investigation into the fire, underscoring the importance of safety in the aviation sector.
Such incidents highlight the responsiveness of airline crews in emergency situations. The ability to quickly evacuate passengers underscores the critical training that airline staff undergo. Passengers are encouraged to remain calm and follow instructions during such unforeseen events.
Although the experience may have been frightening for those on board, successful evacuations are a testament to the stringent safety procedures in place within the airline industry.
As investigations continue, airlines will review safety protocols and maintenance procedures to mitigate potential risks in the future. The commitment to passenger safety remains paramount in the aviation sector, ensuring that travelers can fly with confidence.
