Dramatic footage has emerged showing the urgent rescue of two hikers who found themselves trapped on a remote beach at Point Reyes National Seashore. The hikers became stranded near Elephant Rock after rapidly rising tides cut off their only escape route.
According to a statement from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, the hikers realized they were in peril after spending several hours at the beach. They promptly contacted emergency services for assistance. Department spokesperson Emily Fuller provided updates regarding the unfolding situation.
Due to the challenging environment and the absence of safe access by both land and sea, a specialized helicopter rescue crew was deployed to the scene. Rescuers utilized a 100-foot line to extract the hikers from the rocky shore, securing them in a device known as a “hot seat,” specifically designed for aerial rescues.
The helicopter successfully transported the hikers to Marin County Fire Department, and fortunately, no injuries were reported. The rescue video captures the tense moment as a rescuer descends to the hikers, lifting them high above the waves shortly thereafter.
