Emotional Bodycam Footage Shows Arrest of Teacher Accused of Molesting Student

Recently released bodycam footage reveals the distressing moments surrounding the arrest of a school teacher in Illinois, accused of molesting a 15-year-old student last month. The video captures the emotional breakdown of Christina Formella, age 30, during a traffic stop in which she was taken into custody on charges related to alleged sexual misconduct.

Formella, who worked at Downers Grove South High School, faces multiple charges including sexual assault for purportedly engaging in an inappropriate sexual relationship with the student two years prior. This incident reportedly took place during a tutoring session in December 2023, just before classes started.

The complaint against Formella was initiated when the victim’s mother discovered alarming messages on her son’s phone, leading her to contact law enforcement, according to prosecutors. This pivotal action sparked an investigation into the allegations.

Bodycam Footage Captures Arrest

In the bodycam footage, as police officer instructs Formella to step out of her vehicle, she appears visibly confused and distressed. The police proceed with the arrest, placing her in the back of the patrol car while she raises concerns about her detention.

During the arrest, Formella can be heard sobbing and inquiring about her husband, whom she wed last year. In the video from March 16, 2024, she expresses, “I feel like I’m gonna throw up,” as tears flow down her face.

Details of the Alleged Relationship

Formella initially began tutoring the victim following an incident in which he broke his collarbone, leading them to communicate through a school messaging platform. Court documents obtained during the investigation outline how their interactions escalated to provocative texts and FaceTime conversations, ultimately culminating in the alleged sexual encounter in December 2023.

One alarming message sent by the student reportedly stated, “I love you so so much mama.” In reply, Formella, then 28, allegedly responded, “I love you sooooo much baby… Even though this morning was short, it was perfect.” It’s noted that both individuals later acknowledged the inappropriateness of their actions, with claims that they did not re-engage in sexual activities after that incident.

Denials and Allegations of Blackmail

In a surprising twist, Formella denied any wrongdoing, asserting that the student had unlawfully accessed her phone, sending himself inappropriate messages to blackmail her. She presented this defense during her discussions with investigators.

According to court documents, Formella argued that her physical appearance and her caring nature prompted false allegations against her. This claim highlights the complexities surrounding the case, challenging perceptions of authority figures and their relationships with students.

The Official Response

DuPage County State’s Attorney Robert Berlin characterized the allegations against Formella as
