Erika Kirk Reflects on Her Husband’s Legacy and Forgives His Alleged Killer
Erika Kirk, the widow of the late Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, delivered an emotional tribute at her husband’s memorial service held on Sunday. During the service, she expressed her thoughts on the individual accused of taking her husband’s life. Charlie Kirk was shot on September 10 at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah.
In her heartfelt address, Erika highlighted that Tyler Robinson, the 22-year-old suspect charged in her husband’s death, resembled many young men whom Charlie had aimed to influence positively throughout his life. She shared, “Charlie wanted to save young men, just like the one who took his life.”
Erika also made an impactful statement about forgiveness, referencing a verse that she believed embodied her husband’s values. “Our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.’ That young man, I forgive him… I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it is what Charlie would do,” Erika articulated passionately, moving the audience.

Erika shared an emotional moment when she first arrived to see her husband’s body following the tragedy. “I looked directly at my husband’s murdered body. I saw the wound that ended his life. I felt shock, horror, and a heartache I didn’t know existed,” she recounted with tears in her eyes. Despite the tragedy, Erika found comfort in recognizing her husband’s essence, sharing a touching memory of a gray hair she had never mentioned to him before.
Finding Grace in Grief
Amidst her sorrow, she expressed feeling a sense of divine mercy during that difficult moment. “Even in death, I could see the man that I love. There was something else too… I also saw on his lips the faintest smile. It told me Charlie didn’t suffer,” she revealed. The attending medical professionals reassured her that her husband experienced no pain, providing a small sense of comfort amidst her grief.
Erika reflected on the strength of their marriage and the love letters Charlie wrote her every Saturday. “Someone once asked me how Charlie and I kept our marriage strong despite his busy travel schedule. Our secret was love notes. Every Saturday, Charlie wrote one for me, and he never missed a Saturday,” she shared, displaying a warm smile.
She described how Charlie filled these notes with gratitude, family joys, and his commitment to being a better husband. “He always asked me, ‘How can I better serve you as a husband?’ He truly embodied love and devotion,” Erika noted.
