On Monday, Erika Kirk shared a heartfelt video featuring her late husband, Charlie Kirk, the founder and CEO of Turning Point USA. In the video, he recounts the charming story of how they first met to their daughter.
Sitting at what he affectionately calls Bill’s Burgers—likely referencing Bill’s Bar & Burger in New York City—Charlie Kirk begins to narrate a tale that has become a cherished memory for the couple. He settled his toddler daughter on his lap as he started the story, capturing a moment steeped in love.
“Story time: We’re at Bill’s Burgers in New York City, and right near this very table was the first time Dada met Mama,” Charlie initiates, setting an intimate atmosphere.
He elaborates on their initial encounter, saying, “It started as a job interview. I was asking all these questions, diving into topics like philosophy, religion, and Jesus. Then I realized Mama was beautiful, intelligent, and elegant. I shifted gears and said, ‘Forget this job interview; I want to date you.’ I figured I have enough friends, and that’s how your story began.”
Erika captioned the video, which received nearly 2.5 million likes within just 10 hours, captioning it with the phrase, “my favorite love story.” This post resonated with many, with public figures such as Brittany Aldean, Allie Beth Stuckey, and Terrance K. Williams expressing their support.
Erika and Charlie’s paths crossed at the restaurant in 2018, where Charlie previously revealed the details of their meeting during an event. He described a “very long dinner” filled with engaging conversation, stating he felt almost instantly that Erika was the one.
On September 5, 2023, Erika posted a nostalgic selfie of the couple, commemorating five years since their initial meeting. She shared, “Five years ago today, we sat inside Bill’s Burgers in NYC, deep in conversation and banter over theology, philosophy, and politics. At the end, you paused, looked at me, and declared, ‘I’m going to date you.'” This reflection highlights not just a romantic moment but the depth of their connection.
In December 2020, Charlie proposed to Erika, a pivotal moment they shared on social media. She celebrated their engagement by declaring, “When God writes your love story, you get to marry your best friend.” Their wedding followed less than a year later in May 2021, marking the beginning of a life filled with shared dreams and aspirations.
Tragically, just two days after her husband was murdered, Erika addressed the public, sharing her grief over the loss while honoring Charlie’s legacy. She expressed determination that the movement he created would continue, including previously scheduled campus tours and events like America Fest 2025.
“Two days ago, my husband, Charlie, went to see the face of his Savior and his God,” she emotionally remarked. “And in one of his final conversations on this earth, my husband bore witness for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Now, for all eternity, he will stand at his Savior’s side, wearing the glorious crown of a martyr.” This poignant message reflects not only her sorrow but also her unwavering faith in his mission.
Furthermore, Erika shared that Charlie’s favorite Bible verse was Ephesians 5:25, which reads, “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.” This verse encapsulates the deep affection and commitment that defined their marriage.
In the wake of this tragedy, Erika has received an outpouring of support from both friends and the public. The video of their love story serves not just as a tribute to Charlie but as a reminder of the love they shared, inspiring many to cherish their own relationships.
Through Erika’s personal reflections and the powerful memories captured in the video, the couple’s love story continues to resonate. As they navigate this challenging period, their story serves as a beacon of hope and love for many, underscoring the enduring impact of their time together.
