Erin Murphy, beloved for her role as Tabitha in the iconic 1960s sitcom Bewitched, has recently turned heads with a candid no-makeup Instagram selfie. Although Murphy did not set out to become a symbol of makeup-free beauty or critiques of cosmetic surgery, she felt compelled to share her barefaced image. Her message was simple—”If you’re going to write something, write something nice.”
At 61, Murphy embraces her identity as a mother and grandmother, recognizing the weight social media’s prevailing negativity holds. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, she stated, “I think it was important because I’m a mom, and I’m a grandma, and everyone is on social media. People tend to lead with something negative.”
Her viral post came after she and her twin sister faced hurtful comments on social media. She recounted how some remarks, which were likely meant as compliments, merely perpetuated unfounded rumors about her appearance. Some users speculated that she had only maintained her youthful look due to facelifts.
The actress asserted that her intention behind sharing the photo was not to declare herself as the face of natural beauty. She clarified, “I certainly don’t want to call out anyone who’s had a facelift. This kind of took on a life of its own, where people say, ‘Erin is all natural and Erin will never get a facelift.’” While she has no immediate plans for cosmetic surgery, Murphy does not rule out the possibility altogether.
“And there’s no shame against anyone who does,” she emphasized. “People can do whatever they want to do, and they should feel good about themselves. No one should have strangers tearing them down online.” Her intention was to shed light on the bullies that misuse social platforms while promoting a more positive dialogue.
Murphy described her everyday beauty routine as a “five-minute face.” She employs both high and low-end skincare products and emphasizes the importance of finding what best suits one’s skin type. Her minimalist skin approach includes washing her face with jojoba oil paired with occasional facials.
When asked about her skincare routine, she mentioned using Retin-A on a monthly basis. She noted, “It does great things for your skin … Plus, I drink more water than probably most people, and that makes a huge difference.”
Reflecting on her career, Murphy acknowledged her unique features played a pivotal role in landing her iconic role in Bewitched. She stated, “People always say, ‘Oh wow, you look so much like Elizabeth Montgomery.’ I look more like Samantha than Elizabeth Montgomery, because they hired me to look like her character.” Murphy likened her on-screen persona to her real life, noting that she prefers dressing simply compared to her character’s fashion-forward appearance.
As a mother of six and grandmother of five, Murphy’s lifestyle reflects her commitment to family. She takes an active approach to parenting by engaging with her grandchildren in various activities. “I am very involved in the little ones’ lives,” she shared, hinting at trips to the zoo and outdoor adventures.
Living near the beach, Murphy steers clear of gyms but stays active with light yoga and stretches each morning—approximately ten minutes of movement. Her philosophy centers on remaining engaged and enjoying life outdoors, and she insists that such activities contribute positively to her well-being.
With the holiday season around the corner, Murphy approaches food with a balanced mindset. “I think the biggest mistake people make is going on crazy diets where you limit yourself to one type of food or are heavy on one thing and low on another,” she advised. Advocate of moderation, she believes indulging occasionally is key. “I am a big believer in moderation, and everyone can have a cupcake. You just can’t have the whole cake.”
This year marks a shift for Murphy as she transitions from hosting Thanksgiving dinners, a task she has managed for over 30 years. Her changing family dynamics encourage new traditions, helping her appreciate quality time with loved ones during the holidays.
One of her favorite traditions involves gifting holiday pajamas to family members, transforming them into cozy Christmas morning attire. “I like spending time with family, with friends, and navigating through new traditions,” she shared, capturing her evolving perspective as a parent and grandmother.
Through her self-empowerment and dedication to family, Erin Murphy sends a strong message about self-acceptance and the joys of aging gracefully. Her candid initiatives shine a light on the importance of positivity and the need to challenge online negativity, resonating deeply with fans and followers alike.
