Recently unveiled handwritten notes by James Comey evoke memories of pivotal historical moments, much like the tapes that jeopardized Richard Nixon’s presidency. These documents have reignited discussions surrounding the integrity of both figures and the controversies that enveloped their tenures.
Both Comey and Nixon share several striking characteristics. They display needy and manipulative tendencies, often hiding behind a veneer of honesty while showing disdain for the truth. Nixon’s Watergate scandal deeply damaged his administration, while Comey’s actions related to the Russia investigation sparked a modern political firestorm.
Furthermore, both leaders attempted to control narratives to suit their interests. Just as Nixon. sought to undermine his damaging Oval Office recordings, Comey’s incendiary notes, classified for destruction, also evaded their predicted fate. This foreshadows a pattern of evasion and manipulation that characterizes both politicians.
These recently disclosed notes reveal Comey’s awareness of the dubious origins behind the Russia collusion narrative. Notably, they confirm that he was informed early on that the allegations stemmed from a tactic devised by Hillary Clinton’s campaign, specifically with her approval.
According to Special Counsel John Durham’s report, Clinton aimed to smear Donald Trump by alleging Russian interference in the election, thus seeking an advantage in her electoral bid.
When questioned about his knowledge of these developments, Comey feigned amnesia, claiming no recall of the details regarding Clinton’s scheme to undermine Trump. Nevertheless, his own notes contradict his claims, explicitly mentioning the so-called Clinton plan.
