Exciting Discovery of Prehistoric Remains Unfolds During Texas Road Construction

A recent excavation in Texas has revealed colossal prehistoric remains, capturing the attention of local officials and archaeologists alike, who anticipate further findings in the near future.

The Texas Department of Transportation, known as TxDOT, made the announcement through a press release detailing the remarkable discovery. The excavation occurred in Lubbock as part of an environmental review for the proposed Loop 88 state highway project.

During the archaeological survey, diggers unearthed ancient bones that date back to prehistoric times. These remains were identified as belonging to megafauna, a term that refers to large mammals that roamed the Earth in bygone eras.

Chris Ringstaff, a project planner with TxDOT’s environmental affairs division, reported that such discoveries are not uncommon in the region. He stated that at least one giant ground sloth has been identified based on its distinctive tooth.

Exploration and Identification of Prehistoric Species

While some bones have been identified as those of a giant ground sloth, questions remain about whether there are additional remains from other species like mammoths or mastodons.
