B’Ivory Lamarr, the attorney representing Wilks’ family, provided insights during a conference held on Monday. He indicated that after the two drivers exchanged words, they both exited their vehicles to continue arguing, although their dialogue remained inaudible in the video.

As seen in the video, Wilks accused the officer of causing damage by pointing to the officer’s car. In a shocking turn, Lamarr recounted that Wilks then brandished a firearm and struck the off-duty officer with it—a moment also captured in the footage.

“The video we reviewed today, alongside his mother, clearly shows that he did hit the off-duty officer with a firearm,” Lamarr explained. “It shows Elijah pointing the firearm at the officer. In response, we believe the officer acted according to his training and discharged his weapon.”

Following this confrontation, dashcam footage depicts Wilks emerging from the opposite side of his vehicle as the officer fired additional shots, ultimately striking Wilks multiple times. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
