The father of a man charged with the shooting of two Israeli Embassy staffers in Washington, D.C., recently attended President Donald Trump’s joint address, having been invited by a Democratic representative from Illinois.

According to a spokesperson for Representative Jesús ‘Chuy’ García, Eric Rodriguez was a guest at the President’s Joint Speech to Congress, although the spokesperson clarified that the representative did not know his family personally.

Eric Rodriguez, who served in the Iraq War, is a steward with the Service Employees International Union and presently works at a VA hospital in Chicago.

“Eric represents the very best of our community – someone who has served his country, continues to serve his fellow veterans, and fights daily to uphold the dignity of working people,” García previously expressed in a statement.
