A federal subpoena seeks to obtain records related to Tiffany Henyard, the self-proclaimed ‘super mayor’ of Dolton, Illinois, as a part of an ongoing criminal investigation. This investigation focuses on various activities associated with the ousted mayor and other related individuals.
Signed on February 25, the same day Henyard faced a significant defeat in the mayoral primary election, the subpoena is linked to a controversial development project involving land that was reportedly owned by her boyfriend, Kamal Woods.
The subpoena demands records spanning from 2014 to present day, including an array of documents such as citations, code violations, emails, and text messages exchanged between property owners, tenants, and village personnel. This includes specific correspondence involving Woods, who has been identified in the investigation.
This latest subpoena adds another layer to the ongoing inquiry into Henyard’s conduct while she served as both the village mayor and township supervisor.
Dolton, a suburb of Chicago, has been plagued by a series of investigative actions during Henyard’s tumultuous administration. Another subpoena issued in April sought personnel and disciplinary records for nearly 30 individuals connected to the village’s operations.
In addition, federal authorities have also requested documentation connected to Keith Freeman, the indicted village administrator. Freeman faces accusations of making false statements, alongside failing to report income in his bankruptcy filings.
Henyard, criticized for alleged financial mismanagement throughout her administration, saw her political career come to an abrupt end when she lost the mayoral primary with nearly 88 percent of the votes against her. This defeat marked a significant shift in leadership for Dolton.
In the wake of Henyard’s departure, Trustee Jason House, once an ally, has stepped into the role of acting mayor. He campaigned on a platform that emphasizes transparency and accountability in Dolton’s governance.
On Election Day, House remarked, ‘Not only is Ms. Henyard depriving the public of what they deserve, it’s costing the village money. Day one, every record will be turned over.’ His commitment reflects a broader effort to restore public trust.
Former Mayor Tiffany Henyard, who assumed office in 2021, has found herself at the center of numerous scandals that have drawn public scrutiny. The village enlisted former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot to investigate Henyard’s management of Dolton’s finances. This investigation revealed a troubling financial trend, with the village’s general fund declining from a $5.6 million surplus in 2022 to a $3.6 million deficit anticipated by 2024.
Concerns have surfaced surrounding questionable credit card transactions and a notable lack of financial accountability during Henyard’s tenure, prompting deeper investigation into municipal spending practices.
In addition to allegations of financial impropriety, Henyard faces accusations of civil rights violations and is currently engaged in several lawsuits related to her alleged corruption. The legal landscape surrounding her administration continues to evolve.
One particularly disturbing incident occurred earlier this year, when Henyard was involved in a violent clash at a Thornton Township Board of Trustees meeting. A video circulated online showing her engaged in a physical altercation with activist Jedidiah Brown following pointed criticisms directed at her administration.
Brown, during the public comment segment, charged that Henyard had failed to adequately respond to troubling reports about her management of village funds. His remarks turned confrontational, culminating in a chaotic scene as physical confrontations erupted among attendees.
As the meeting spiraled into chaos, video footage captured the moment when both Woods and Brown exchanged blows, with security personnel struggling to separate the combative factions.
The situation in Dolton epitomizes a community grappling with the fallout from a controversial leadership era. As House steps in to navigate the transition, he faces the challenge of restoring faith in a governance structure that has faltered under Henyard’s leadership.
The fallout continues to reverberate within Dolton, as residents call for accountability and clarity regarding their village’s direction and future governance.
Fox News Digital has reached out to both Woods’ attorney, Beau Brindley, and the village of Dolton for their comments on the ongoing situation.
