I’m totally baffled by it.” She noted that her team witnesses assaults on the street without having the authority to intervene unless there is a direct connection to federal law.

Wamsley noted that these protesters often come dressed in black, intent on causing chaos. Wamsley warned that protests can swell from 50 to 1,000 participants within half an hour, making it increasingly difficult for the limited police presence to manage the situation. “Sometimes, we only have 20 officers here. We would not be able to defend the building with that show of force,” she explained.

Wamsley criticized the Portland Police Department’s slow response times, indicating that sometimes no officers arrive at all.
