Federal Task Force Launches Operation Apex Hammer in New Jersey to Tackle Violent Crime

An early morning raid in Newark, New Jersey, delivered a stark warning to criminals in the area. The U.S. Marshals, in collaboration with local law enforcement, served a warrant targeting a suspected member of the Tren de Aragua gang. Authorities contend that the suspect is illegally in the country and is wanted for a series of armed robberies committed on the New York City subway system.

This operation is part of a broader initiative, dubbed Operation Apex Hammer, which aims to reduce violent crime statewide over the course of one month. Federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies have united efforts to identify and apprehend individuals affiliated with gangs and other violent offenders who possess active felony warrants. This includes notorious groups such as MS-13, Tren de Aragua, the Sex Money Murder-Bloods, and the Rolling 60’s Crips.

Focus on Violent Offenders

Juan Mattos, the United States Marshal for the District of New Jersey, elaborated on the significance of the operation. He stated that the U.S. Marshals Service consistently targets the most dangerous fugitive offenders, including those wanted for murder and shootings. Through this latest operation, the agencies involved aim to send a clear message: violent individuals will be pursued relentlessly.

Among those accompanying the task force was Alina Habba, the Interim U.S. Attorney for New Jersey. Habba emphasized the urgency of their mission, stating that her office is working on multiple cases simultaneously to expedite the process of ensuring public safety. She highlighted that addressing violent crime is a top priority for the current administration.

Operation Apex Hammer’s Approach

As the task force awaited the main suspect’s surrender, an unexpected development occurred. Instead of the targeted gang member, three undocumented migrants exited the residence. Although apprehension of these individuals wasn’t the objective, the search for the primary suspect continues.

Habba underscored the inherent challenges of dealing with gang members who believe they possess rights that do not apply to them. She asserted that individuals engaging in criminal activities must face the consequences and be removed from the community.

Targeting All Criminals

Operation Apex Hammer extends beyond gang affiliations, with U.S. citizens also facing arrest. Recently, local authorities apprehended a New Jersey woman wanted for shooting at least two people, alongside a man accused of aggravated assault. The latter nearly evaded capture through a fire escape but was ultimately detained.

Mattos reinforced the resolve of law enforcement by stating that the message is clear: evading justice is not an option. He emphasized that both the Marshals and their collaborative partners will continuously strive to bring fugitives to justice, irrespective of how long it takes.

Safety and Determination in Law Enforcement

Despite the inherent dangers associated with such operations, Habba expressed confidence in her safety, citing her reliance on her capable team and her steadfast faith. She recalled advice from former President Trump, who once told her not to be concerned about threats made by those intending harm, but rather to focus on the silent adversaries.

Appointed to her position by Trump, Habba is currently serving as the Interim U.S. Attorney and is eligible for a 120-day term that requires subsequent Senate confirmation. She remained undeterred by potential challenges, reiterating her commitment to her role.

A Focus on Community Safety

Habba shared her philosophy, stating that many assumptions about her may not reflect reality. She asserted her dedication to her responsibilities, affirming that her role transcends political perceptions. Being the Chief Law Enforcement Officer in New Jersey is a duty she takes seriously, emphasizing that her focus lies exclusively on her prosecutorial work.

The initiatives undertaken during Operation Apex Hammer will span through June, with law enforcement agencies optimistic about the outcomes of their intensified efforts. As of now, dozens of suspected criminals have been apprehended, marking significant progress in the ongoing fight against violent crime.

Ongoing Commitment to Public Safety

As communities in New Jersey grapple with the challenges of violence related to gang activities, the operations by the U.S. Marshals and their partner agencies reflect a comprehensive strategy aimed at restoring safety. Through sustained action, the task force seeks to not only arrest violent offenders but also to instill a sense of security among residents. The emphasis on community safety remains paramount as Operation Apex Hammer moves forward with its mission to dismantle networks of crime and apprehend those who threaten public peace.
