A Florida man is now facing serious charges after allegedly killing three tourists just minutes away from the Magic Kingdom. Ahmad Jihad Bojeh, 29, had a documented history of criminal activity and mental health issues, which raises questions about how he was allowed to remain free before the tragic incident.
Bojeh’s criminal history includes a notable case from 2021, where he faced charges of attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery. This stemmed from an incident where he reportedly opened fire at a person and several random vehicles in a Kissimmee gas station parking lot. Records indicate that he was ultimately found not guilty by reason of insanity in that case, sparking criticism regarding the effectiveness of the prosecution.
In addition to the attempted murder charge from 2021, Bojeh’s past also includes arrests for felony drug possession and misdemeanor resisting an officer without violence. These instances reflect his long-standing and troubling relationship with law enforcement.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier commented on Bojeh’s violent past following his recent arrest, highlighting the inadequacies in how previous cases were handled. He stated that Bojeh had been acquitted of serious charges because of failures in the prosecution.
“Before State Attorney Worrell’s suspension, Ahmad Jihad Bojeh was acquitted of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm and aggravated battery,” Uthmeier noted. “It appears she didn’t put up a fight to Bojeh’s use of the insanity defense, and he was allowed to go free.”
Osceola County Sheriff Christopher Blackmon described Bojeh as a frequent flyer with the sheriff’s office and branded him a persistent threat to the neighborhood. Sheriff Blackmon indicated that repeated calls for service involving Bojeh include numerous concerns from the community.
Despite his concerning history, investigators say Bojeh lived next door to the rental property where the three tourists were staying. The deadly shooting occurred on a Saturday afternoon, marking a horrific chapter in the community’s history. Sheriff Blackmon characterized the incident as both cold-blooded and premeditated, calling it an act of senseless random violence. He remarked, “It was cold-blooded, it was premeditated, there were absolutely no issues. This was just random.”
Deputies responded to reports of the shooting at around 12:13 p.m. on the day of the incident. They discovered three adult men outside the residence, each suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. According to the investigation, the victims had just extended their stay by a day due to vehicle troubles.
Officials identified the victims as Robert Luis Kraft, 69, from Holland, Michigan, and his brother Douglas Joseph Kraft, 68, from Columbus, Ohio. The third victim was James Puchan, 68, also from Ohio and a close friend of the Kraft brothers. Their sudden deaths have shocked friends and family and raised community concerns about safety.
Law enforcement authorities located Bojeh within his adjacent home about an hour after the shooting. He was taken into custody without incident. Currently, Bojeh faces three counts of premeditated murder and one count of resisting arrest without violence. He is being held at the Osceola County Jail without bond, reflecting the seriousness of the charges against him.
As the investigation continues, local officials are pressured to address how individuals with such a concerning background can slip through the cracks of the justice system. This tragic event emphasizes the need for thorough examination and reform in handling mental health issues within the legal framework.
This incident serves as a grim reminder of the challenges faced by communities in managing repeat offenders. The circumstances surrounding Bojeh’s actions bring to light the potential dangers posed by individuals with unresolved mental health and criminal histories. As the community grieves the loss of the three innocent victims, there is an urgent need to reassess strategies for preventing violence and ensuring public safety.
The ongoing investigation is crucial to unraveling the complex factors that led to this tragic event. In the meantime, the community remains on edge, hoping for justice and meaningful change in the wake of senseless violence.
