Florida Secures $28 Million Federal Immigration Funding Amid Rising Tensions
Florida is poised for a substantial influx of federal funding. State and federal officials revealed a significant agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement through the 287(g) program. This program empowers state and local law enforcement to assist in immigration enforcement.
On Friday, Governor Ron DeSantis joined Madison D. Sheahan, the ICE Deputy Director, and other key officials in Tallahassee to announce that Florida will receive over $28 million. Additionally, local law enforcement agencies will benefit from an extra $10 million. This funding is part of a broader allocation of $1.7 billion distributed nationwide under what President Trump has dubbed the ‘Big, Beautiful Bill.’
Three States Sign New Agreements with ICE to Expand Immigration Enforcement Operations
During the announcement, Sheahan emphasized the significance of this funding. “Thanks to President Trump and Secretary Noem’s ‘Big, Beautiful Bill,’ we are able to provide $1.7 billion to state and local law enforcement,” she stated. “Today, I’d like to present a check to the state of Florida for over $28 million and to local law enforcement for over $10 million.”
Funding Allocation Breakdown
According to ICE, the funding includes $2.7 million earmarked for transportation support for local agencies. Moreover, $7.3 million will equip 974 local officers to enhance their operational capabilities. At the state level, Florida will allocate $1 million for transportation and a remarkable $27.5 million for equipment intended to support 3,676 state officers.

The announcement follows a troubling incident in Dallas, where one ICE detainee lost their life, and two others sustained injuries during a shooting at an ICE facility. The FBI is currently treating this attack as targeted. The suspect, named Joshua Jahn, allegedly opened fire as ICE officers escorted detainees into the building.
