Video footage has recently emerged of Vance Boelter, the suspect charged in the Minnesota lawmaker attacks, energetically delivering a sermon in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in 2022.
In the viral video, Boelter exuberantly proclaims, “And when I get excited, I wanna dance!” while enthusiastically jumping and expressing his joy in faith. “He saved my life!” he exclaims with fervor. His message is rich with praise and zeal as he shares his religious experiences with the congregation.
This August 2022 clip was filmed during a seminar at the LaBorne Matadi church where Boelter presented a spirited message to attendees. The event was a collaborative effort between the DRC, Minnesota Africans United (MAU), and Global Minnesota.
Global Minnesota issued a statement expressing shock and deep sadness regarding the violent allegations surrounding Boelter. They clarified his lack of association with their organization and emphasized that Boelter neither received payment nor had any formal or informal role with them.
The organization explained, “In August 2022, Global Minnesota had contact with Vance Boelter through a virtual panel discussion. He participated from abroad, referred by a third party. However, he was never contracted by Global Minnesota and has had no further contact since that webinar.”
The Global Impact Center, which also hosted a seminar where Boelter spoke, reiterated their mission to engage in community development. They confirmed that, while Boelter previously participated in some events, he does not hold any positions of responsibility within their framework.
“We want to clearly state that Mr. Boelter is neither a member of Global Impact Center’s leadership team nor affiliated with any of our local or international church partners,” their statement indicated. They expressed sadness over the recent events and reiterated their commitment to the Gospel, emphasizing the tragic nature of the allegations against Boelter.
Through their joint efforts with church organizations and volunteers, the Global Impact Center and similar entities often organize conferences involving American missionaries. Boelter’s participation was framed within that context as a guest speaker.
Minnesota Africans United similarly issued a statement clarifying that they never engaged Boelter on any official capacity. They highlighted that his only previous involvement was as a participant in a virtual session facilitated by a third party about three years ago.
Vance Boelter, 57, was apprehended in Sibley County, Minnesota, following a two-day manhunt. He faces multiple charges in connection to the June 14 shooting deaths of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark. The details are deeply troubling, with further allegations that he shot state Senator John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in what authorities believe was a targeted attack.
Reports indicate that Boelter deliberately targeted lawmakers, arriving at their residences dressed in a police-like uniform and mask. This betrayal of trust has raised alarm among officials and the public alike.
Bob Jacobson, Minnesota’s Department of Public Safety Commissioner, addressed the media, stating, “Boelter exploited the trust our uniforms are meant to represent. That betrayal is deeply disturbing to those of us who wear the badge with honor and responsibility.” He commended community members for their cooperation in the investigation.
Minneapolis community groups echoed their devastation over the violent acts. Minnesota Africans United expressed sorrow, stating, “We are devastated by the tragic and senseless act of violence that claimed the life of former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman, her husband, and left Senator John Hoffman and his spouse critically injured.” Their heartfelt wishes extend to the families affected, emphasizing the need for compassion during such trying times.
Boelter faces four felony counts of second-degree murder with intent, charges which carry significant penalties. He is accused of two counts for the deaths of the Hortmans and two counts for the attempted murders of the Hoffmans. Each felony charge could lead to a maximum sentence of 40 years in prison, with mandatory minimums due to firearm involvement.
The unfolding events have raised many questions about the motivations behind the attacks and Boelter’s past associations. As the investigation continues, the effects of this tragedy will undoubtedly resonate through the community and beyond. Authorities are meticulously piecing together the circumstances surrounding the case, aiming to provide answers to a grieving public.
As the case progresses, community leaders and organizations strive for healing and understanding amid the dark cloud cast by these events. The call for justice and accountability echoes strongly through the region as residents reflect on the senselessness of the violence against public figures.
Further details regarding the legal proceedings and their implications for public safety will continue to be closely monitored as the situation develops. As this case highlights the intersection of community, faith, and law, it serves as a reminder of the responsibilities both public servants and citizens have toward one another in fostering a safe and harmonious society.
