Following the recent NFL Draft, discussions erupted on social media regarding quarterback prospect Shedeur Sanders, who surprisingly did not make it into the first round. Many speculated on the reasons behind this significant oversight.
Adding fuel to the conversation, former Democratic U.S. Representative Jamaal Bowman weighed in, asserting that Sanders’ drop in selection reflects America’s ongoing fears of strong Black men. In a pointed message shared via social media, Bowman drew a parallel between Sanders and former NFL star Eli Manning, who famously refused to play for the San Diego Chargers after being selected first overall in 2004.
Bowman emphasized that the perception of Sanders is influenced by his personal style. He stated, “The NFL doesn’t like Shedeur Sanders because he wears gold chains and talks like a rapper. They don’t care that he’s a leader, intelligent, tough, and completed an extraordinary 77% of his passes under challenging conditions, with no offensive line and no running game. He’s considered entitled, yet Eli Manning was not branded as such when he rejected the Chargers?”
