Alan Dershowitz, a former attorney for the late Jeffrey Epstein, has proposed that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s only convicted accomplice, should be granted immunity from further prosecution. This suggestion comes with the expectation that Maxwell would share crucial information during congressional hearings.
At 63 years old, Maxwell remains the only associate to face criminal or civil repercussions related to Epstein’s actions. During a 2016 deposition in a civil lawsuit, she claimed to have no recollection of nearly two dozen flights on Epstein’s private jet with Virginia Giuffre, who later became one of the most vocal accusers against the trafficking operation. Notably, flight logs revealed that Maxwell and Giuffre were on the plane together at least 23 times before Giuffre turned 18, as previously reported by Fox News Digital.
Tragically, Giuffre died by suicide earlier this year.
Dershowitz asserted that Maxwell holds essential information about Epstein’s activities. He remarked during an appearance on Fox News Sunday that she is the “Rosetta Stone” of the investigation into Epstein’s criminal network.
In an intriguing twist, an unnamed friend of Maxwell disclosed in a recent interview with the Daily Mail that she may be willing to testify before Congress. When approached for comment, Maxwell’s attorney did not confirm or deny this information.
Dershowitz emphasized that granting Maxwell use immunity could compel her to provide testimony. He stated that her willingness to testify indicates she wouldn’t be inclined to withhold relevant details. He believes there are no downsides to offering her immunity, suggesting that congressional authorities should summon her to testify in front of a committee.
These developments emerge shortly after federal authorities announced plans to petition a federal judge for the unsealing of secret grand jury materials aimed at uncovering more details about Epstein’s illegal activities. However, Dershowitz warned that the most significant information may not reside in the grand jury materials but in sealed court documents, many of which he claims to have already reviewed.
Furthermore, he cautioned that not all claims made against individuals connected to Epstein would stand up to scrutiny.
Dershowitz articulated that public interest in this case remains high, emphasizing the need for transparency. He stated that as long as any information about the accuser’s credibility is unredacted, the public deserves to form their own opinions about the allegations.
According to federal law, use immunity serves as a legal shield that protects witnesses from facing criminal prosecution based on their testimony, provided they are truthful. This provision encourages individuals like Maxwell to share information that could assist in ongoing investigations.
In 2021, more than two years post Epstein’s death in custody, Maxwell was found guilty of aiding him in trafficking underage girls. She received a sentence of 20 years and has since appealed her conviction to the U.S. Supreme Court.
With Maxwell’s extensive knowledge of the crimes for which she has been convicted, Dershowitz reiterated that she organized virtually every trip involving Epstein’s associates. He underscored the depth of her involvement, asserting that “she knows everything.”
