A former morning TV news anchor has been charged with first-degree murder following the alleged stabbing of her 80-year-old mother, according to the local district attorney’s office.
Angelynn “Angie” Mock, 47, once a prominent anchor for FOX 2 News in St. Louis, is now at the center of a shocking criminal case. The charges arise from the alleged murder of her mother, Anita Avers, which reportedly occurred on Halloween.
Mock’s arrest took place on October 31 in Wichita, Kansas. Authorities disclosed that Avers was found deceased inside the home that both women shared.
Wichita police officers responded to a distress call around 7:50 a.m. Upon their arrival, they encountered Mock outside the residence, visibly injured with cuts on her hands.
Avers’ body was discovered inside, showing multiple stab wounds, as reported by the district attorney’s office.
After being treated for her injuries at a local hospital, Mock was then booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. Officials from the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that her preliminary hearing is set for November 14 at 1:30 p.m.
Before her arrest, Mock had noteworthy experience as a morning news anchor, working at FOX 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. She had previously held positions at KOKH FOX 25 in Oklahoma City. At the time of her arrest, she was reportedly employed in a sales role at a data management software company, as indicated on her LinkedIn profile.
The incident has left the local community in shock. Neighbors expressed their horror after witnessing Mock emerge from the home covered in blood. According to local news reports, a resident named Alyssa Castro recounted a disturbing encounter.
Castro explained that as she approached her vehicle, Mock approached her with blood on her hands and body, urgently requesting that she call 911.
In a chilling account, Castro added that Mock had taken her boyfriend’s phone before retreating back into the house, where she reportedly called the authorities and allegedly claimed to have stabbed her mother in an effort to save herself.
Currently, the motive for the alleged stabbing remains unclear. As this case unfolds, information regarding Mock’s initial court appearance has not yet been made available.
The development of this case raises significant questions about the circumstances leading to the tragic death of Anita Avers. Will the court uncover further details about the events on that fateful day?
For the community and families affected, the hope is for clarity and justice in the wake of this deeply unsettling incident.
