During the pivotal election week, Americans turned to Fox News Channel for comprehensive information and analysis regarding key races in states like Virginia, New Jersey, and New York City.
According to data from Nielsen, Fox News attracted an impressive average of 1.4 million total day viewers, securing the top position among all cable news networks in the week ending November 3.
Significantly, Fox News was the only cable outlet to exceed the one-million viewer mark. In contrast, MSNBC trailed with an average of 695,000 viewers, while ESPN garnered 637,000 viewers. CNN fell short with only 487,000 average viewers.
When it came to primetime viewership, Fox News achieved an average of 2.2 million viewers, outperforming second-place ESPN, which reported 1.5 million viewers. MSNBC managed to attract 1.3 million viewers, while CNN concluded with 786,000 viewers. Overall, Fox News outperformed both MSNBC and CNN combined in total day and primetime viewership.
Fox News also excelled in the highly coveted demographic of adults aged 25 to 54, recording an average of 132,000 viewers during the day and 220,000 during primetime. This solid performance placed Fox News ahead of both CNN and MSNBC in these critical categories.
On election night, Fox News reached an average of 2.92 million primetime viewers, surpassing MSNBC’s 2.88 million viewers and CNN’s 1.9 million viewers. This night was characterized by significant Democratic victories in key races, notably in Virginia and New Jersey, as well as the election of Zohran Mamdani as the new mayor of New York City.
Fox News’ election night coverage consistently outperformed NBC, dominating in 23 of the top 25 markets, which included major cities such as New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. The program “The Five” led the cable news landscape with an impressive average of 3.6 million viewers during this crucial news cycle. Meanwhile, “Hannity” attracted the highest number in the 25-54 demographic with 311,000 viewers.
Several of Fox News’ signature programs displayed remarkable success, further solidifying the network’s lead. “Special Report with Bret Baier,” “The Ingraham Angle,” “Jesse Watters Primetime,” “Gutfeld!” and “FOX News @ Night with Trace Gallagher” all contributed to Fox News’ success.
Notably, “Gutfeld!” averaged 2.6 million viewers, successfully outdrawing CBS’s “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!,” and NBC’s “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
Viewership trends showed no signs of fading after Election Day. “Jesse Watters Primetime” maintained strong engagement with an exclusive interview featuring Erika Kirk, averaging 3.1 million viewers and 295,000 in the key demographic on the following Wednesday.
Beyond primetime, Fox News programs such as “The Will Cain Show,” “America’s Newsroom with Bill Hemmer and Dana Perino,” “Outnumbered,” “The Faulkner Focus,” and “The Story” with Martha MacCallum all performed remarkably well. These shows consistently attracted larger audiences than NBC’s “Today with Jenna and Friends” and “NBC News Daily.”
Fox News asserted its dominance on weekends too. Kayleigh McEnany’s “Saturday in America” led with an average of 1.4 million viewers, making it the No. 1 show on Saturdays. Similarly, Maria Bartiromo’s “Sunday Morning Futures” captured the crown for Sunday viewership with 1.5 million viewers.
Fox News’ strong performance during election week illustrates its significant impact on American news consumption, especially amid critical political shifts. As the network continues to lead in viewership, it remains an essential source for political news and analysis, catering to an audience hungry for information during pivotal moments in the electoral landscape.
