From Gridiron to the Ring: Jasper Troy Fulfills His WWE Dream

Jasper Troy, formerly known as Antoine Frazer, has transitioned from college football to pursuing his lifelong ambition of becoming a professional wrestler with WWE. Before receiving a contract for WWE’s NXT brand, he envisioned a career on the football field rather than inside the wrestling ring.

Having played college football for the Northern Iowa Panthers, Troy always aspired to compete in the WWE. He shared with Fox News Digital that his journey began long before he donned football pads; it was rooted in childhood dreams and video games.

“Wrestling was always my dream,” he explained. “It’s a common sentiment among fans, but for me, every Monday and Thursday, I would be glued to the screen. Sundays became a ritual of watching preview shows for pay-per-views, eagerly anticipating the events.”

His devotion often led him to friends’ houses where they played the latest WWE video games, solidifying his passion for wrestling.

The Shift from Football to Wrestling

Despite his success on the football field, the joy he once found in the sport began to fade. Troy articulated a pivotal moment during his time with the Panthers when the excitement of football diminished.

“There came a time when I realized football wasn’t fun anymore,” said Troy. “What started as a passionate pursuit turned into something less enjoyable.”

Troy recalled heartfelt conversations with his brother, where wrestling often became the central topic. “While football brought me success, it didn’t feel the same anymore,” he added, referencing how the pressures and expectations changed his perspective on the game.

Finding Purpose Amidst Disappointment

Troy reflected on his college experience, recalling how it became more burdensome than exhilarating. He felt the competitive nature of Division One football shifted his focus from the love of the game to outside pressures.

“The reasons I initially loved the sport faded. It became more complicated to navigate, especially at the collegiate level,” he explained. He acknowledged that he may not have possessed the maturity to handle those pressures as effectively as some of his teammates.

Consequently, Troy faced a significant fork in the road. It was a critical juncture where he decided to pursue wrestling wholeheartedly. While he received support from his college trainers, they encouraged him to prioritize his education first.

Discovering His True Passion During COVID

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic provided Troy with a unique opportunity to step back and evaluate his future. “I had a year to reassess my life and seek what truly resonated with me,” he stated. “During the pandemic, I remained devoted to football, but I found myself increasingly drawn to wrestling.”

As he spent more time at home, the WWE brand captured his attention, and he began to feel that wrestling was his true calling.
