Glen Powell recently shared an amusing incident from the filming of his latest movie, ‘The Running Man’, revealing an unexpected wardrobe malfunction that caught him off guard.
During an episode of Entertainment Tonight’s show, ‘Spilling the E-Tea’, the 37-year-old actor candidly recounted how a particular stunt both surprised and embarrassed him. The scene involved Powell rappelling down the side of a building while appearing quite exposed.
Powell described his preparations for the stunt, which included wearing a towel and a unique pouch underneath that he humorously referred to as a ‘marble sack’. He recounted the moment he realized the potential for awkwardness while filming. “So I’m wearing a pouch underneath and then I’m wearing a towel around it,” he explained. “But then you’re rappelling down a building. When you’re going down, you might see a window. You don’t always remember there are people inside, preparing lights and electricity for the scene.”
His co-star, Joshua Brolin, couldn’t resist the opportunity to tease Powell about the incident. Brolin noted that the crew inside the building was following Powell’s descent closely and humorously spread his legs to illustrate Powell’s positioning during the stunt.
‘The Running Man’ features Powell in the role of a desperate father aiming to secure a fortune to help his ill daughter. Driven by necessity, he enters a reality show where living 30 days while being pursued by professional assassins could lead to financial salvation. The tense and thrilling premise adds layers of suspense to Powell’s comedic mishap.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Powell expressed his enjoyment of the scene concept, describing it as both “very, very funny” and something that had not been seen in movies before. However, when filming commenced, he found himself regretting his initial agreement to the stunt.
Reflecting on his choice, Powell admitted, Because I signed off on that scene in the summertime, we had to shoot it in February in Bulgaria, at a rooftop. So being in a towel around a crew is one thing, but in February’s chill while wearing just that? It’s certainly a sight to see.
Powell rose to prominence in 2022 with his role in ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ alongside the renowned actor Tom Cruise. Following that breakthrough performance, he starred in ‘Hit Man’ and ‘Anyone But You’, the latter earning him a Golden Globe nomination.
After appearing in ‘Anyone But You’ in 2023, rumors began circulating regarding a romantic link between Powell and co-star Sydney Sweeney. Speculation intensified amidst Sweeney’s engagement status, particularly after her decision to attend Powell’s sister’s wedding in March, following her engagement’s conclusion.
During an interview with Variety in October, Sweeney addressed the media frenzy surrounding their rumored relationship. “The press did it themselves,” she remarked. “There was no leaning in, per se. The tabloids and journalists just created it and kept going.”
She added, “Even if we were just standing next to each other, it was, ‘They’re standing two inches apart!’” highlighting the absurdity of the speculation.
Fans of Powell can look forward to the release of ‘The Running Man’, which is scheduled to hit theaters on Friday, November 7. Speculations around Powell’s career and personal life continue to attract public interest, ensuring that his audience will remain engaged in the upcoming months.
