GOP Accuses Democrats of Misusing Epstein Investigation to Undermine Trump

Republicans on the House Oversight Committee allege that their Democratic counterparts are manipulating the ongoing investigation into Jeffrey Epstein to deflect scrutiny from President Donald Trump. Instead of seeking closure for Epstein’s victims, they claim, Democrats are focused on advancing a political narrative aimed at damaging Trump.

Fox News Digital has acquired a 10-page memo from GOP committee staff that asserts Democrats have distorted information gathered during the investigation to fabricate a false narrative targeting the former president.

“The investigation led by Oversight Committee Democrats, with Robert Garcia (D-Calif.) at the helm, has significantly mischaracterized witness testimonies and selectively released information with redactions designed to mislead,” the memo reads.

According to the memo, when committee Republicans released a complete set of documents, Democrats described this transparency as a tactic to “disorient” and “distract” the public from the inaccurate narrative they were constructing about Trump.

Partisan Divisions Increase Amid Investigation

Months into the investigation, which was initially organized with bipartisan support for transparency, it has devolved into a bitter partisan conflict. Each side accuses the other of straying from the inquiry’s primary goal.

Democrats have charged that Republicans are using the probe to protect Trump, who is known to have been friends with Epstein but has never been linked to any illegal activities associated with him. The GOP, on the other hand, maintains that its effort is genuine and aims to bring light to the experiences of Epstein’s victims, casting Democrats as the ones politicizing the investigation.

In the memo, Republicans assert that Democrats have failed to uncover new evidence and have had no substantial new documentation to offer. They reiterate that the American public is already aware of Trump’s longstanding connection to Epstein. The memo emphasizes that Trump cut ties with Epstein years ago and had no knowledge of Epstein’s criminal behavior.

Lack of New Evidence Fueling Controversy

The documents released by the committee so far do not provide conclusive evidence of Trump’s awareness of Epstein’s activities. Nevertheless, Trump has consistently denied any improper connections.

One notable point addressed in the GOP memo is the deposition of former Attorney General Bill Barr, which seemingly absolved Trump of any wrongdoing concerning the investigation. However, Republicans claim that Garcia misrepresented Barr’s comments, suggesting Barr had “limited knowledge” of the case.

The memo also spurred controversy by accusing Democrats of selectively leaking three emails from the pile of 23,000 documents obtained from the Epstein estate to craft a narrative unfavorable to Trump.

Key Facts Overlooked in Redaction

Among the critical omissions highlighted in the memo is the exclusion of the name of late Epstein accuser Virginia Giuffre. The memo notes that Giuffre stated she never witnessed Trump engaging in any wrongdoing.

Additionally, the memo claims that Democrats purposely redacted Giuffre’s reference to Prince Andrew in a separate email. This decision, Republicans argue, robbed the email of crucial context and altered its meaning.

The GOP contends that these actions demonstrate a pattern of deceit, implying that Democrats are manipulating evidence to serve their political ends. The memo states, “Democrats are trying to mislead the media and the American people by manipulating the context of documents and witness testimonies.”

Democrats Criticized for Lack of Transparency

The GOP also condemned Democrats for leaking parts of Epstein’s notorious “birthday book,” which included Trump’s name but omitted a message purportedly written by former President Bill Clinton.

In the context of subpoenas issued earlier this year, the committee has yet to call either Clinton for questioning, as only individuals connected to Trump have so far testified.

“Democrats are not genuinely interested in transparency or justice,” the memo asserts. “The evidence collected by the Oversight Committee does not implicate President Trump in any way, and they must stop playing games throughout this investigation.”

Upcoming Vote on Transparency Legislation

The memo is dated just days ahead of a pending vote in the House on bipartisan legislation that seeks to compel the Department of Justice to release all documents related to Epstein.

House GOP leaders previously opposed this initiative, arguing that the proposed legislation could expose sensitive information that might jeopardize Epstein’s victims, while also stating that such measures were unnecessary given the ongoing committee investigation.

However, a discharge petition spearheaded by Representatives Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) is enabling House lawmakers to bypass leadership and force a vote on the proposed measure.

In a recent Truth Social post, Trump encouraged GOP members to support the legislation, urging, “We have nothing to hide, and it is time to move on from this Democrat Hoax.”

Fox News Digital reached out to the Democratic members of the committee for comments regarding these allegations.
