BETHLEHEM, PA – Representative Ryan Mackenzie, a freshman GOP lawmaker, clinched a crucial victory in the Lehigh Valley just six months ago. With midterm elections approaching in 2026, Americans for Prosperity, a conservative advocacy group, is actively mobilizing its grassroots coalition in his pivotal swing district.
Although 2025 marks an off-election year for Mackenzie, who unseated longtime Democrat Representative Susan Wild in November, he is not taking time for granted. As he jogged through neighborhood blocks in Bethlehem on a Saturday afternoon, Mackenzie greeted constituents ahead of his first re-election challenge, which is still 17 months away.
On that Saturday, Mackenzie collaborated with AFP activists in the Lehigh Valley, participating in a day of action aimed at educating constituents about his efforts to extend President Donald Trump’s 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) and advocating for Trump’s ambitious legislation as budget negotiations continue in Congress.
He described this participation as his initial door-knocking experience since being elected in November. Mackenzie emphasized the importance of transforming legislation that could lower taxes and ease the cost of living for both individuals and small businesses across the nation. He remarked, “For the past four years, we’ve seen that inflation has been out of control, driving up the prices of everything — food, fuel, housing, healthcare.”
This growing concern over inflation resonates deeply with his constituents. Mackenzie asserted, “It’s been very difficult for people to make ends meet. That was a significant issue during the campaign, and we now have an opportunity to deliver major tax reforms as members of Congress.”
While Mackenzie and his colleagues focus on the legislative process, they face challenges. Conservative dissenters recently stalled a procedural vote on budget reconciliation, prompting House leaders to reconvene late Sunday night. Simultaneously, Trump is rallying House Republicans to advance his major legislative proposals following a recent diplomatic trip to the Middle East.
Mackenzie noted, “Ultimately, we need to achieve a resolution that satisfies 218 members of Congress. We are close to making that happen. It is important that everyone remains patient during this process, as we will unite to do what is right for the American people.”
The advocacy group joined forces with Republican Representatives David Schweikert and Juan Ciscomani from Arizona, along with Ashley Hinson of Iowa, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Mackenzie for door-knocking efforts, phone banking, and grassroots organization. These activities serve to support Trump’s tax cuts by informing constituents about how their representatives aim to alleviate everyday financial burdens.
AFP reported reaching over 90,000 voters during the Saturday initiatives. Emily Greene, the State Director of Americans for Prosperity Pennsylvania, stated, “We have been actively knocking doors, making calls, hosting events, and organizing demonstrations to emphasize the urgency of making provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act permanent.”
She elaborated, “Every day, we engage with taxpayers and business owners who recognize the need for Congress to act. We cannot risk facing the largest tax hike in American history. After four years marred by record-high inflation, taxpayers deserve better.”
In conjunction with this grassroots initiative, AFP launched a substantial $20 million campaign named ‘Protect Prosperity.’ This marks the most significant investment by any outside group aimed at preserving the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. The timing of this campaign is strategic, focusing on competitively contested congressional districts in Arizona, Iowa, Michigan, and Pennsylvania as significant races are predicted for 2026.
The Saturday effort not only highlighted how Republican representatives are working to boost the economy for average Americans but also served as a precursor to an early messaging strategy for the upcoming election season.
As Democrats aim to reclaim control of the House of Representatives in 2026, AFP is proactively addressing potential attacks on Republican representatives’ backings of Trump’s sweeping legislative proposals. By conveying to Republican voters that their leadership is actively delivering for them, the group seeks to secure support ahead of the contentious electoral cycle.
Mackenzie’s proactive approach illustrates his commitment to both his constituents and his party’s broader objectives. As he engages with voters and champions tax reforms, he sets the stage for what promises to be a fiercely competitive electoral landscape in 2026.
