Grieving Mother Calls Out Senator Van Hollen’s Actions Amid Ongoing Immigration Debate

As a mother from Maryland mourning the tragic loss of my daughter to an illegal immigrant, I want to share a stark reality: safety feels elusive under Democratic leadership. This sentiment resonates in our homes, communities, and especially here in Maryland, where the priorities of the ruling party seem misaligned with the needs of constituents.

My daughter, Rachel Morin, was a compassionate and devoted mother of five. She brightened every room with her presence. Tragically, on August 6, 2023, her life was cut short by Victor Martinez-Hernandez, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador who entered our nation under the Biden administration. Recently, he was rightfully convicted of first-degree murder, rape, and kidnapping.

Sadly, Rachel’s experience is not unique. She represents countless victims across our state and nation who have suffered due to the failures of current immigration policies. Instead of supporting these victims, the Democrats seem to exacerbate the situation.

Senator Van Hollen’s Controversial Trip

This month, Senator Chris Van Hollen made headlines for using taxpayer funds to charter a plane to El Salvador. His mission? Advocating for the return of an MS-13 gang member currently imprisoned in the United States. Instead of focusing on the American people and those impacted by migrant-related crimes, Van Hollen appears to prioritize assisting dangerous criminals from abroad. This move raises serious concerns about his commitment to public safety.

This initiative feels like a direct affront to my family and countless others affected by migrant crime. It also sends a clear message to every Maryland resident: the concern for our safety is not a priority for Democrats.

A Strong Contrast in Leadership

Fortunately, we are fortunate to have a president who genuinely cares about those who placed their trust in him. President Trump has taken significant steps to secure our borders and protect American lives. I witnessed this firsthand during a recent visit to the White House, where I had the opportunity to share my family’s story with the press corps. After meeting with President Trump and sharing a heartfelt moment, I felt reassured that he prioritizes border security and is committed to reversing the damage caused by the previous administration.

As President Trump pointed out, “Every state in this country is a border state,” and he fully understands that danger doesn’t solely originate from the south. In conversations with White House officials and experts, it became evident that our next focus will be on strengthening the northern border against threats from drug cartels, human traffickers, and illegal migrants who utilize similar tactics as those seen in Mexico. If we do not have strong enforcement measures in place, our neighborhoods remain at risk.

Advocating for All Americans

The battle for safety and security is far from over. It is crucial for our political leaders—especially Democrats like Senator Chris Van Hollen—to align with President Trump’s agenda to protect American lives. I cannot bear the thought of another family enduring the heartbreak we have faced. The stakes are high, and we must come together to ensure that no other child’s life is taken due to leadership failures.

A Call to Action Through Faith

I recently encountered a poignant quote from A.C. Dixon, which resonates deeply with our current situation: “When we depend upon our organizations, we get what organizations can do; when we depend upon education, we get what education can do; when we depend upon man, we get what man can do; but when we depend upon prayer, we get what God can do.”

As we navigate these challenging times, let us pray for the safety and security of families not only in Maryland but across the nation. We remain hopeful that our leaders will prioritize the protection of American lives and honor the memories of those we have lost.
