Two years ago, Emma Dimery faced a dire prognosis. Doctors diagnosed her with stage 4 colon cancer, stating the illness was incurable. Now, she enjoys a renewed lease on life, free of cancer, attributing her recovery to an innovative clinical trial.
Dimery, a 35-year-old from Minnesota, was only 23 when she received her life-altering diagnosis. Over recent years, doctors have noted a worrying increase in cases of colon cancer among young adults and teenagers.
Initially, Dimery experienced severe abdominal pain which led to abnormal blood test results, prompting a colonoscopy. The procedure revealed alarming findings with a tumor the size of a softball and another the size of a golf ball.
Despite enduring multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatment, Dimery’s cancer continued to spread throughout her body. At one point, she described reaching an emotional low, as her options dwindled.
“I felt like I was just treading water, doing immunotherapy every other week for about four years,” she recounted during an interview. Dimery emphasized her sense of desperation, stating she felt completely
