IN TODAY’S REPORT:
MAIN STORY: Hamas has publicly dismissed criticism from senior U.S. officials after ceasefire negotiations with Israel fell apart earlier this week. In a statement, the group expressed that they are “appalled” by President Trump’s remarks regarding their motives. The U.S. president, who has been striving to alleviate a humanitarian crisis while backing the Israeli ally that was attacked by Hamas on October 7, 2023, issued a concerning appraisal. Trump stated that Hamas “didn’t really want to make a deal. I think they want to die, and it’s very, very bad.”
VIDEO UPDATE: Education Secretary Linda McMahon discussed Columbia University’s decision to pay a fine to President Trump, the investigation into DACA scholarships, and Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s inquiry regarding international visas at Harvard. WATCH THE VIDEO FOR MORE DETAILS.
ANTISEMITISM IN PORTLAND: During a performance in Portland, Oregon, singer Regina Spektor was interrupted by loud chants from anti-Israel protestors in the audience. COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY SETTLES: Two maintenance staff members at Columbia University filed a complaint alleging they were held hostage and assaulted by anti-Israel demonstrators during a riot last year. The workers, coerced into scrubbing swastikas, reached a settlement with the university. However, they continue their lawsuit against 40 protesters they claim detained them inside Hamilton Hall.
GUEST COLUMN: Tamar Major, executive director of Yad Vashem USA Foundation, emphasizes that preventing another Holocaust necessitates vigilance, particularly as antisemitism infiltrates elite institutions and university campuses.
QUOTE OF THE WEEK: “While the mediators have made a tremendous effort, it appears that Hamas lacks coordination and is not acting in good faith. We will now explore alternative measures to repatriate hostages and strive for a more stable environment for the residents of Gaza,” stated U.S. Special Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff.
