Tragically, Warner died while swimming at Playa Grande de Cocles in Costa Rica. Reports from the Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Department indicated that he was swept into deeper waters by a current while swimming. Initially rescued by beachgoers, Warner was unable to be revived by first responders.
Malcolm-Jamal Warner first rose to fame as Theo Huxtable on “The Cosby Show,” a role he played from 1984 to 1992. He appeared in all 197 episodes of the acclaimed NBC sitcom, earning an Emmy nomination for best supporting actor in a comedy in 1986. While the show’s legacy faced challenges due to controversies surrounding Bill Cosby, Warner held a sense of pride in being part of an iconic series that shaped not only Black culture but American culture at large.
