U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, often referred to as ICE, has successfully apprehended two illegal immigrants who escaped custody after allegedly assaulting a female Border Patrol agent.

Juan Carmen Pardon Mendez, aged 29, and Juan Carlos Padron Barron, aged 23, both originally from Mexico, have been returned to custody. According to statements from ICE’s Houston office, they will face criminal prosecution to the fullest extent permitted by law.

The escape occurred on September 22 in Conroe, Texas. Reports indicate that one of the men managed to free himself from restraints and subsequently choked a Border Patrol agent while she was transferring them to the Montgomery Processing Center.

In response to this incident, Gabriel Martinez, acting Field Office Director of ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, expressed strong concerns. He stated, “It is sickening that another law enforcement officer has been needlessly harmed as a direct result of the continued demonization of legitimate law enforcement activities by political leaders and certain members of the media.”

Both individuals were successfully captured on Tuesday after collaboration with various law enforcement partners, as noted by ICE.

Initially, the suspects were detained during a multi-agency law enforcement operation, which ICE led, specifically targeting violent criminal aliens and serious immigration offenders in the vicinity of Spring, Texas.

ICE also revealed that Padron Barron has previously entered the United States illegally at least three times and had been expelled on two recent occasions, December 13, 2022, and January 1, 2023. This particular event marks the first contact U.S. immigration officials have had with Padron Mendez.
