The official statement reads, “Deerfield Public Schools District 109 complies with state law. The Illinois Human Rights Act prohibits all public school districts from discriminating on the basis of sex, including gender identity, and mandates that students must be permitted access to the locker room and bathroom that aligns with their gender identity.”
Additionally, the district acknowledges the importance of privacy for all students. They assure that no student is obliged to change in front of others during physical education classes. Following renovations in 2017, the schools incorporated five private changing stations in each locker room, tailored for student privacy. Students also have the option to change in private locations separate from the locker rooms.
