India is making strides in renewable energy by launching its largest floating solar power plant to date, the Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park, located in Madhya Pradesh. The Omkareshwar Floating Solar Park, constructed by Tata Power Renewable Energy Limited, features 126 MW of solar capacity, utilizing a monumental 213,460 bifacial glass-to-glass modules. These modules span an extensive 260 hectares, equivalent to 642 acres, across the waters of the Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar hydroelectric reservoirs. This project is expected to generate approximately 204,580 MWh of clean energy annually, enough to power thousands of homes in the region.
Notably, Larsen & Toubro, a prominent player in the renewable energy sector, contributed significantly to this project by commissioning a 90 MW floating solar power plant.
