Alejandra Silva and Richard Gere share a deep bond, both personally and professionally. The couple started their romance in 2014 and celebrated their marriage in a private ceremony four years later.
Silva, who is 41 years old, has established herself as a publicist and a passionate advocate against homelessness. She is associated with a foundation called Hogar Si and actively campaigns for environmental issues. Gere, aged 75, and Silva collaborate on the Sierra a Mar project, focusing on sustainability along the beautiful coast of Jalisco in Mexico.
Both Gere and Silva are devoted to their values, which encompass Buddhism and vegetarianism. Silva, an avid horseback rider and animal lover, aligns her personal beliefs closely with Gere’s lifestyle.
“We are like soulmates,” Silva expressed recently in an interview with Elle España. Their shared values and worldview have created a strong connection. “From the first moment, we felt that we had known each other for a long time,” she reflected.
Silva emphasized their mutual commitment to activism, stating, “One of the things that unite us the most is our activist hearts. It’s about raising awareness and giving a voice to the voiceless. We have a responsibility to infuse our values into the world.”
The couple’s impact extends beyond personal activism. Silva, born in A Coruna, Spain, hails from a notable family, including a father who served as the financial vice president for Real Madrid.
As an American citizen, Silva participated in a U.S. election for the first time in November. “Standing there, ballot in hand, I felt a deep sense of pride and connection,” she shared on Instagram. This experience signified more than just participating in a democratic process; it represented a moment of belonging, she stated.
After marrying in 2018, Silva moved to New York and Connecticut with Gere. However, their choice to relocate to Madrid late last year was driven by Silva’s desire to be closer to her family. Gere articulated this decision, explaining, “It’s time for my wife to be around her family and culture. It’s beneficial for our children too, as we immerse ourselves in another culture.”
The couple, with an age gap of 34 years, also successfully navigates their complex family dynamics. Silva is a mother of three, and she embraces the role of stepmother to Gere’s 25-year-old son, Homer, from his previous marriage to Carey Lowell. Gere was also once married to supermodel Cindy Crawford.
The couple has welcomed two sons of their own, Alexander and James, born in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Additionally, Silva has a son named Albert from her first marriage, born in 2012.
Gere spent most of his adult life in New York, a city he cherishes deeply. He explained, “New York gets in your blood. It infects your DNA.” However, his affection for Spain is equally strong. He noted the joy of living in Madrid, especially during the holiday season.
As Thanksgiving approached, the couple eagerly anticipated celebrating the holiday in Spain. Silva delighted fans on Instagram with a glimpse of their home in Madrid, where their children decorated the Christmas tree. “This year, finally, Christmas in Spain!” she wrote.
During an interview with Jimmy Fallon, Gere shared insights about Silva’s family background. Silva’s grandmother was the emotional anchor of her large family, who passed away about two years ago. Gere understands the importance of family, saying, “I can see her morphing into the new grandmother of this extended family. She is already planning for 35 people for Sunday lunches.”
Gere and Silva’s journey illustrates a powerful partnership rooted in shared values, family commitment, and a passion for activism. As they build a life together in Spain, they embody a modern fairy tale where love transcends boundaries, cultures, and generations.
