During the recent wildfires in Los Angeles, Jack Nicholson expressed his concern for his ex-partner Anjelica Huston. Huston shared details of their communication during her evacuation in a recent interview with The Guardian.
While navigating a tense situation, Huston found herself in a car accompanied by three dogs, two cats, and her housekeeper. Nicholson called her to check on her well-being and to inquire if she had a safe place to stay. “That’s the bottom line with he and I – when the chips are down, he’s there,” Huston remarked.
Huston’s Narrow Escape from Disaster
Thankfully, Huston’s home escaped the flames, albeit narrowly. She described a harrowing moment, saying, “My house almost burned down. It came very, very close. My electricity and water and power are still off, but we were safe.” After evacuating, she sought refuge at her ranch, which houses seven donkeys, six horses, and numerous pets.
A Long Shared History
Nicholson and Huston shared an on-and-off relationship that lasted 17 years, from 1973 to 1990. They worked together on three notable films: Prizzi’s Honor, The Last Tycoon, and The Postman Always Rings Twice. Throughout their time together, Nicholson was unfaithful, and their relationship ended definitively in 1990 when he had a child with another woman.
Reflections on Love and Heartache
Reflecting on their complex relationship, Huston expressed, “I loved him. I think in the world that I was living in, it wasn’t disrespectful. It was how he was, and it wasn’t so personal.” This acceptance helped her navigate their relationship dynamics. She continued, “I think as soon as I clocked that, it was all right; I knew how to protect myself. It didn’t make me happy, but I knew what I was doing.”
Huston emphasized her strength, stating, “I did what I wanted to do, and I did it with sureness. If I wanted something, I knew how to go after it, so it wasn’t as though anything was being done to me. I wasn’t a wilting flower.”
Life After Nicholson
In 1992, Huston married sculptor Robert Graham, remaining with him until his passing in 2008. Conversely, Nicholson has reportedly fathered six children, including Jennifer Nicholson, whom he shares with his first wife, Sandra Knight. Other children include Caleb Goddard with Susan Anspach, Honey Hollman with model Winnie Hollman, and Lorraine and Ray Nicholson with actress Rebecca Broussard. There is also Tessa Gourin, who claims to be his illegitimate daughter.

At 87 years old, Nicholson made headlines recently for his first public appearance in two years during the Saturday Night Live 50th celebration. He joined his daughter Lorraine as he reemerged into the spotlight, introducing Adam Sandler, his co-star from the 2003 film Anger Management.
