Jake Paul’s eagerly anticipated fight against WBA lightweight champion Gervonta Davis has been called off due to the latter’s latest legal troubles. The decision followed a civil lawsuit filed in Miami, where Davis faces serious allegations of assault and battery against his ex-girlfriend at a local strip club.
The civil suit accuses Davis of not only physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend but also making written threats to kill her on two separate occasions. As the situation unfolded, Paul’s promotion company, Most Valuable Promotions, officially announced late Monday that the match would no longer take place.
Despite the setback, Paul remains determined to fight again by the end of the year, stating that he is looking for alternative opponents.
Upon learning of the fight’s cancellation, Paul did not hold back in his criticism of Davis, labeling him as “an actual walking human piece of garbage.” His comments were shared via Instagram Stories, where he detailed his frustrations regarding Davis’s behavior.
Paul articulated that collaborating with Davis had become an exhausting ordeal, citing unprofessional conduct such as tardiness to promotional shoots and numerous brushes with law enforcement. He expressed deep disappointment for the undercard fighters, his team at Most Valuable Promotions, and everyone who invested time and energy preparing for the fight.
In his Instagram post, Paul emphasized his commitment to supporting women, explaining that he could not give Davis a platform to expand his fan base or financial standing. He noted, “It’s scary that devilish men like this can rise to the top of culture and sports, including in positions of power.
