Jana Kramer recently opened up about how her husband navigates her intimate scenes as an actress. In an exclusive interview with Fox News Digital, the 41-year-old actress and singer shared insights into her new film, The Christmas Ring, along with her husband’s initial reactions to her romantic roles.
Kramer explained that her husband, Allan Russell, found it challenging at first to come to terms with her love scenes. She emphasized her desire to make him feel comfortable with her on-screen relationships. To address his concerns, she initiated a friendly gathering.
“I invited Ben Hollingsworth and his wife Nila over for a barbecue with the kids,” Kramer explained. “Once you get to know my co-star and their families, it transforms into a friendly environment. It’s not as staged as people think it is.”
The Christmas Ring features a poignant narrative about a military widow seeking love while searching for her family’s lost heirloom from D-Day. Kramer reflects on the depth of the character she portrays and how it relates to her own experiences.
In addition to Kramer, the film stars Kelsey Grammer, Ben Hollingsworth, and Jessie James Decker, with Hollingsworth taking on the role of Kramer’s love interest. Kramer praised her co-star, stating, “Ben was incredible. We forged a genuine connection, and I believe we did the characters justice.”
Despite being familiar with holiday films, Kramer felt a unique connection with this project upon reading the script. “Initially, I thought, ‘Not another Christmas movie,’ but then I realized this script stands apart from those I’ve encountered in the past,” she noted.
She further expressed her empathy for her character’s grief. “I have not experienced widowhood, but I truly connect with heartbreak and understand the struggles of being a single mother. Drawing from my past experiences allows me to enrich my portrayal of the character.”
Kramer, who shares two children with ex-husband Mike Caussin, admitted to feeling excited about projects that draw on her personal history. This emotional depth enhances her performances.
While filming with Kelsey Grammer, known for his role in Frasier, Kramer acknowledged feeling nervous. “I kept thinking that I needed to elevate my performance to match his caliber,” she explained. The pressure to impress left her feeling both excited and anxious.
Her dedication paid off when Grammer offered his validation during filming. “I saw Kelsey nod approvingly after one of my takes. At that moment, I felt accomplished,” she expressed. This approval significantly boosted her confidence on set.
Beyond the acting, Kramer enjoyed getting to know Grammer on a personal level. Their conversations ranged from family anecdotes to insights gleaned from his extensive Hollywood experience. “Kelsey was open to discussing his life, and it was inspiring to hear his perspectives,” she shared.
In addition to the star-studded cast, Kramer was thrilled to work alongside friend Jessie James Decker, who was eager to venture into acting. Decker expressed her enthusiasm about making her acting debut in this project, calling it a blessing. “This film, centered around love, hope, and holiday magic, is close to my heart,” she stated. “Working with Jana made the experience even richer.”
Decker added that collaborating with Kramer felt natural given their shared history and friendship. “We have supported each other through so much,” Decker concluded, highlighting the joy of working together in a creative setting.
The release of The Christmas Ring is set for November 6, and both Kramer and her co-stars are eager for audiences to experience the film’s heartfelt narrative. With its unique storyline and emotional depth, this film promises to differ from typical holiday fare.
Kramer’s journey in the entertainment industry demonstrates her resilience and ability to draw from her personal life to inform her work. As she prepares to release yet another Christmas film, her commitment to authenticity shines through.
This film not only showcases her talent but also reflects her growth as an artist. By sharing her experiences, she encourages others to embrace their own stories. As viewers await the premiere, Kramer’s insights into balancing family life with her craft resonate with many.
