Jaxson Dart’s Father Reveals Text to Lane Kiffin Amid Giants Coaching Speculation

The New York Giants are struggling this season with a record of 2-7, marking the third consecutive year of poor performance. As the team navigates yet another disappointing campaign, the pressure mounts on head coach Brian Daboll.

Daboll, who joined the Giants with hopes of revitalizing the franchise alongside quarterback Daniel Jones and running back Saquon Barkley ahead of the 2022 season, initially found success. Under his leadership, the team reached the playoffs with a record of 9-7-1, earning him the Coach of the Year award. However, the last few seasons have led to frustration and despair for fans and players alike.

Amid this turmoil, one element of hope has emerged from East Rutherford: rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart. The Giants made a significant move in April by trading up to select Dart, recognizing his potential to make an impact.

With Daboll’s contract running only through next year and the team once again mired in a losing season, rumors have begun to swirl. Speculation suggests that Lane Kiffin, Dart’s former coach at Ole Miss, could be a candidate to replace Daboll should the Giants decide to make a change.

In a recent conversation on a podcast, Dart’s father, Brandon Dart, shared that he personally texted Kiffin regarding the coaching speculation. He described the interaction within their family texting group, noting, “I think [New York radio host] Boomer Esiason had said something in the media today that maybe they should throw out a potential coaching (offer) to Kiffin, and he just sent it over with a smirk and just said, ‘It’s too cold in New York for me.’ It’s just kind of funny,” Brandon Dart recounted on the “Bleav in Ole Miss” podcast.

Brandon Dart also emphasized the strong bond between his son and Kiffin, stating, “We have our weekly interactions with him and his family, and Jaxson holds high regard. I think Kiffin is one of his most trusted allies, and he uses him for advice in a lot of different ways, so there’s constant communication between them, even today. We’re very grateful for coach Kiff.” This close relationship between the Dart family and Kiffin has provided Jaxson with invaluable support as he transitions into the NFL.

Jaxson Dart has already created a buzz in the league after being selected by the Giants as the 25th overall pick. Since taking over as the starter in Week 4, he has demonstrated flashes of brilliance despite the overall challenges faced by the team.

In his debut game, Dart led the Giants to a victory, but he soon faced the realities of being a rookie. During his next game against the New Orleans Saints, he encountered significant struggles, which were compounded by the loss of key offensive players. Nevertheless, the Giants surprised fans by upsetting the Philadelphia Eagles in a remarkable home game. Unfortunately, the euphoria was short-lived, as they made history by allowing 33 points in the fourth quarter, resulting in a shocking defeat.

The Giants’ woes continued as Dart attempted to rally his team, but their losing streak has stretched to three games following a setback against the San Francisco 49ers.

Despite these challenges, Dart has shown resilience on the field. Over six starts, he has totaled 15 touchdowns—ten passing and five rushing—against just four turnovers. His completion percentage stands at a respectable 62.3. However, injuries and key drops have hindered his performance. In his first start, he lost top receiver Malik Nabers, and rookie sensation running back Cam Skattebo suffered a gruesome injury in Week 8.

As for Coach Brian Daboll, his record with the Giants now stands at 20 wins, 39 losses, and one tie. Almost half of those victories occurred during his inaugural season. Subsequent years have not been kind, with the team finishing 6-11 last year, followed by a current season that some insiders are dubbing the worst in franchise history.

Moving forward, the Giants must confront uncertainty surrounding their coaching strategy and team dynamics. With the potential of losing coach Daboll and the ongoing struggles of the franchise, the spotlight remains on Jaxson Dart. His development as a quarterback will play a vital role in the organization’s future success, and the support from coaches like Kiffin could be pivotal.

The Giants, once a proud franchise with a rich history, now find themselves at a crossroads. As they contemplate their next steps, fans will closely monitor Dart’s progress and any potential coaching changes as they aim to reclaim their place among the NFL elite.
