Vice President JD Vance expressed his desire for late-night host Jimmy Kimmel to apologize to Erika Kirk and the individuals he accused of slandering after Kimmel resumed his show following a brief suspension. The suspension came in response to Kimmel’s remarks about the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, which ignited considerable backlash from the political right.
Kimmel’s show was pulled from the airwaves after his comments riled conservatives and drew criticism from Federal Communications Commission chair Brendan Carr, who warned that the agency might consider regulatory action against the network for Kimmel’s statements.
In a recent interview, Vance highlighted the gravity of Kimmel’s remarks, stating that the comedian’s implication—that right-wing Americans were responsible for Kirk’s death—was not only wrong but dangerous. Vance noted that Kirk was murdered by a left-wing radical, and not by anyone associated with conservative ideologies.
“He tries to say that he told a joke. He didn’t tell a joke. He was actually accusing right-wing America, conservative America, of killing Charlie Kirk. We now know that is false,” Vance stated during an appearance on The Ingraham Angle. He further elaborated that such accusations are harmful and perpetuate a cycle of violence.
Vance continued his critique of Kimmel’s remarks, arguing that they undermine the efforts of those who have been vigilantly praying for Charlie Kirk. By insinuating that conservatives were responsible for Kirk’s murder, Kimmel, in Vance’s view, effectively trivializes the reality of leftist violence.
“When you accuse the people who’ve been holding prayer vigils of killing Charlie Kirk, you’re actually apologizing for his murder, encouraging more of that violence to happen,” Vance asserted. He emphasized the need for honesty about the origin of such violent acts, stating that if society is to address left-wing violence, acknowledging the truth is essential.
