Jennifer Garner has candidly shared her experiences with cosmetic procedures, including Botox, in a recent interview. The 53-year-old actress spoke to Harper’s Bazaar about her cautious approach to injectables and the impact of aging on her self-image.
In the interview, Garner reflected on her trials with Botox, revealing her dissatisfaction with the results of the treatment. She emphasized the importance of finding a skilled practitioner and advised others to proceed with caution. Garner stated, “As far as injectables go, I think just find somebody fantastic and proceed with caution. I don’t do a ton, and Botox doesn’t work very well for me; that’s why I wear bangs a lot.”
She went on to stress her desire to retain natural movement in her forehead, saying, “I like to be able to move my forehead, and it’s such a big part of my face.” Garner humorously described her forehead as “like a five-head,” showcasing her ability to find humor in her imperfections.
Garner also revealed her considerations regarding plastic surgery. Although she has contemplated cosmetic enhancement in the past, she was advised by medical professionals against it. “I don’t judge whatever makes anyone look or feel their best. I haven’t needed it yet, but I can’t say that I haven’t said to doctors before, ‘Do I need to do this?’” she explained. Garner mentioned that compassionate doctors have assured her that surgery was not necessary at that point in her life.
She did not dismiss the possibility of future surgical procedures, however. “God only knows 10 years from now what the conversation will be. I’m not there yet,” she noted, indicating that she remains open to change as she ages.
In discussing her beauty routine, Garner emphasized the critical role of sunscreen in maintaining a youthful look. She expressed gratitude for her early commitment to sun protection, recalling, “As someone who was not a sunbather in my 20s — I just didn’t have that patience — I luckily did wear sunscreen.” Garner remarked on the advancements in skincare products over the years, appreciating their evolution and effectiveness as she approaches her 50s.
During the interview, Garner reflected on aspects of her appearance that she has come to appreciate more with age. She attributed this perspective to her upbringing, stating, “Part of the gift of being my mother’s daughter is that I haven’t spent a lot of time stressing about my physical appearance. I don’t spend a lot of time in the mirror.”
She acknowledged that, while she could benefit from additional grooming attention, she prefers to focus less on her looks. She humorously recognized that some past paparazzi images might suggest otherwise, saying, “If you look through the last 20-plus years of paparazzi pictures of me, you would see images and say, ‘You would be best served by spending more time thinking about what you look like.’” Nonetheless, she confidently stated, “But the flip side of that is that I’m not really that stressed about aging or things changing.”
Garner revealed her thoughts on how aging feels to her. She remarked, “I have my moments, of course, where I’ll look in the monitor at work and be like, ‘Who is that? Ah, that’s me!’” However, she advocates for a positive outlook on aging. “What are you going to do? I want to age. I want to live to be 100. I don’t expect to look at 100 like I look today. I want to wear every single bit of those 100 years and feel great about them.”
Garner expressed her gratitude for her current age, emphasizing how she embraces her journey through life. “I’m very grateful to be exactly this age. I’m trying to soak it up. I feel like I’m living in my power, my wisdom, and my joy,” she declared. Garner appreciates the lucky moments and grace that have accompanied her throughout her life.
In a previous interview with Elle, she cautioned younger women considering cosmetic enhancements to be cautious and introspective about their choices. Garner advised, “My advice is to look at the mirror less and be cautious when it comes to injecting anything into your face. Be very, very incredibly judicious and wait as absolutely long as possible to add anything. Don’t think that you’re 37 and you need to be shooting up your face.”
Recently, in a conversation with People magazine, Garner reaffirmed her acceptance of aging, stating, “Honestly, mostly, I am grateful just to be alive. And I’m grateful for the wisdom that I’ve gleaned out of these years.” She expressed admiration for the journey of other women aging gracefully alongside her.
Garner concluded her reflections with hopeful advice for younger generations. She advised them not to fear the aging process, saying, “Take care of yourself, but don’t be scared. Aging is a gift.” With her open and relatable insights, Jennifer Garner continues to inspire many to embrace aging with confidence and gratitude.
