Jewish War Hero Finally Receives Correct Headstone After 80 Years in Italy

On February 19, 1945, American soldiers from the Army’s 10th Mountain Division embarked on a perilous mission to penetrate the Gothic Line and ascend Mount Belvedere in Italy. This drastic effort resulted in significant casualties as they faced a fierce German defense. During this challenging operation, Private First Class Del Riley suffered severe injuries when he tripped over a landmine, necessitating heroic actions from his close friend, medic Private First Class Frank Kurzinger.

In an act of bravery, Kurzinger rushed to help Riley, despite warnings to stay back. Tragically, he triggered another landmine, resulting in his instantaneous death at the young age of 22.
