Cleveland Browns quarterback Joe Flacco may find himself as the starting player in Week 1 of the 2025 season if Deshaun Watson is unable to return. With the NFL Draft just hours away, Flacco shared his thoughts during an appearance on the popular morning show, Fox & Friends.
When asked if he would be surprised if the Browns selected a quarterback, Flacco remarked that he expects the team to make such a move. He emphasized that this expectation aligns with the nature of the sport.
Flacco stated, “I’m expecting, I think everyone’s expecting them to take a quarterback, and it’s just part of the game. Every team is looking to get that next guy to make their team as good as possible for the future, and that’s part of it.” His perspective highlights a common trend among NFL teams focusing on long-term success.
Several quarterbacks have emerged as frontrunners in this year’s draft discussions, including Cam Ward, Shedeur Sanders, and Jaxson Dart. However, Flacco did not specify which quarterback he believes the Browns should select, keeping his thoughts on their strategy ambiguous.
Currently, Cam Ward is the favorite to be chosen by the Tennessee Titans with the first overall pick. The Browns, holding the second overall selection, could potentially opt for Shedeur Sanders, who has garnered significant attention and is considered a strong candidate. Recent predictions have also projected that the Browns might take Heisman Trophy winner, Travis Hunter.
While discussing the draft, Flacco candidly admitted that he has not focused on analyzing incoming rookies. At the age of 40, with his own children to care for, he has limited time to devote to watching college football games.
He explained, “I don’t get much of a chance to look at these guys. Man, at 40 years old and with young kids myself, I’m not sitting on the couch on Saturdays as often watching college football. I know a lot goes into looking at these guys, and for whatever reason, you never quite know if you’re gonna hit or not. But these guys have put in a lot of work to get where they are. They deserve a lot of respect for doing that.” His humility and acknowledgment of the hard work put in by these young athletes resonate with fans and aspiring players alike.
Joe Flacco’s journey in professional football began when he was selected as the 18th overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Baltimore Ravens. Throughout his career, he has successfully navigated challenges and showcased his skills on the field, leading the Ravens to a Super Bowl victory in 2012.
Following his tenure with the Ravens, Flacco played for the Denver Broncos, New York Jets, and Indianapolis Colts before returning to the Browns. With a remarkable record of 257 career touchdown passes and nearly 46,000 passing yards, Flacco’s contributions to the sport remain significant.
As the NFL draft approaches, all eyes will be on the Cleveland Browns to see how they approach their second overall pick. With Joe Flacco’s insights into team dynamics and player selections, fans are eager to see how the organization plans to secure its future at the quarterback position.
Flacco’s expectation that the Browns will indeed select a quarterback reflects broader trends within the NFL, where the emphasis on building for the future is crucial. The upcoming draft could mark a pivotal moment for the franchise as they seek to enhance their roster and compete effectively in the coming seasons.
