Former NFL star Joe Theismann is preparing for the upcoming American Century Championship, a prestigious celebrity golf tournament slated for 2025. As one of the seasoned participants, Theismann brings a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to the event.
Despite having won only the Korbel Hole-In-One Contest at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Club, Theismann is thrilled to rejoin the tournament this year. In a recent interview with Fox News Digital, he expressed his eagerness to participate once again.
“I have been in 35 out of 36 tournaments,” he stated. “Those dates are definitely circled on my calendar. The American Century Championship has been an incredible experience, showcasing top competition and an opportunity to connect with wonderful people.”
Theismann also emphasized the significant charitable aspect of the tournament. Over the years, millions of dollars have been raised to support the Stowers Institute for Medical Research and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation. This philanthropic involvement makes the event even more meaningful for participants and spectators alike.
“American Century organizes a fantastic week not only for their guests but also for all of us involved,” he shared. “Events like karaoke nights and delightful dinners facilitate interaction among everyone. My wife and I eagerly anticipate these moments. There is so much to learn from each other.”
Theismann fondly recalled conversations with star athletes like Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills about his experiences from the 2023 season. He also highlighted a memorable encounter with actor Miles Teller, expressing excitement over their interaction.
“Top Gun: Maverick is one of my all-time favorite films,” Theismann said, chuckling. “When I saw Miles Teller on the driving range last year, I felt like a little kid. I hesitated to approach him, but the urge to say hello was strong.”
Interestingly, Theismann did not shy away from admitting his admiration for Teller, playfully identifying as a bit of a ‘fanboy.’
“I am not ashamed to say it. I have had the privilege to meet numerous important figures in my lifetime, including heads of state and successful CEOs. Yet, it brings me joy to engage with people and understand what makes them unique and what drives them in life,” he explained.
Last year, Theismann found himself tied with Joe Flacco and Jason Scheff, finishing at 46th alongside A.J. Hawk and Seth Curry in 2023. This season, he hopes to enhance his performance, despite acknowledging that age has started to impact his game.
With golf being a game of skill and strategy, Theismann is taking steps to improve his game for the 2025 championship. He understands the challenges that come with age but remains optimistic about making progress.
This year, fans are invited to join the excitement through a fantasy golf game created for the tournament. Registration opens next week and will offer participants the chance to win two tickets to the following year’s event and a $10,000 donation to a charity of their choosing.
The structure of the American Century Championship follows a 54-hole Stableford format, where golfers accumulate points based on their performance relative to par on each hole. The golfer with the highest point total at the end of the tournament will be crowned the winner.
The American Century Championship is set to start on July 9 and will run through July 13, promising days filled with golf, entertainment, and crucial charitable contributions.
As the tournament approaches, excitement continues to build. Theismann, along with other celebrity participants, looks forward to creating new memories while supporting important causes. The combination of golf, philanthropy, and celebrity interaction makes this gathering unique.
The American Century Championship is more than a golf event; it is an opportunity for sports legends and fans alike to come together and contribute to meaningful causes. Theismann’s enthusiasm embodies the spirit of the tournament, making it a must-watch event this summer.
