Joe Theismann Shares Optimism on Aaron Rodgers’ Potential with the Steelers

Aaron Rodgers recently finalized a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, answering a key question that lingered throughout the NFL offseason. This decision spurred a mix of reactions, reflecting a spectrum of belief about his potential success.

The Steelers have cycled through five different quarterbacks since Ben Roethlisberger’s retirement in 2021. Many observers noted that Rodgers did not showcase his MVP-caliber skills during his time with the New York Jets in 2023, leading to skepticism regarding his fit with the Steelers.

Despite some critical voices, including a former general manager who suggested that Rodgers might become ‘irrelevant’ by Thanksgiving, Super Bowl champion Joe Theismann expressed a more positive outlook in a recent conversation with Fox News Digital as he prepared for the upcoming American Century Championship golf tournament.

Theismann emphasized Rodgers’ significant potential, indicating that part of his success will stem from his ability to focus solely on his quarterback duties, rather than managing personnel decisions.

“Think about the offenses Aaron has run previously,” Theismann stated. “He often had to control many aspects of the game. Now, he does not need to worry about those responsibilities. He just gets to operate as a quarterback.”

“He doesn’t have to function as an assistant general manager. His primary focus will be on running the offense effectively. By alleviating that burden, it allows him to contribute more as a team member rather than as someone trying to juggle multiple roles.”

Additionally, Theismann highlighted the Steelers’ consistent reputation for effective coaching under Mike Tomlin.
