Julian McMahon, the renowned actor celebrated for his roles in “Fantastic Four,” “Nip/Tuck,” and “Charmed,” has sadly passed away at the age of 56. This unfortunate news was confirmed by his wife, Kelly McMahon, who provided details of his death.
Kelly shared with Fox News Digital that her husband succumbed to cancer after a long and courageous battle. In her heartfelt statement, she reflected on his life and legacy.
“With an open heart, I wish to share with the world that my beloved husband, Julian McMahon, died peacefully this week after a valiant effort to overcome cancer,” Kelly said. She added, “Julian loved life, his family, friends, work, and his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible. We ask for support during this time to allow our family to grieve in privacy. We wish for those to whom Julian brought joy to continue finding joy in life.”
Gratitude marked Kelly’s sentiments as she concluded her statement, emphasizing the cherished memories they built together.
Born on July 27, 1968, in Sydney, Australia, McMahon had a notable lineage. His father, Billy McMahon, served as Prime Minister of Australia from 1971 to 1972. This background provided McMahon with a unique perspective that he would later translate into his artistic endeavors.
Initially starting his career as a model, McMahon quickly transitioned to acting. He made his debut in the short-lived Australian daytime soap opera “The Power, the Passion” in 1989, followed by a role in another soap opera, “Home and Away,” from 1990 to 1991. His talent soon led him to Hollywood.
After gaining experience in various Australian productions, McMahon’s career took a significant leap when he starred in the 1992 Australian-American film “Wet and Wild Summer.” Following that, he appeared in the soap opera “Another World” in 1992, which further solidified his growing fame.
McMahon became a household name in the United States after his performance as Cole Turner, a love interest to Alyssa Milano’s character Phoebe Halliwell, in the iconic TV series “Charmed.” His role in this fantasy drama captivated audiences from 2000 to 2005.
From 2003 to 2010, he showcased his acting prowess as Dr. Christian Troy in the acclaimed Ryan Murphy series “Nip/Tuck,” where he received praise for his compelling portrayal.
McMahon continued to expand his resume with notable roles in various genres. He led the crime series “FBI: Most Wanted,” delighting viewers until his departure from the show in 2022. His contributions to the series established him as a versatile actor capable of handling complex characters.
On the silver screen, he left an indelible mark as the villain Victor Von Doom in the superhero films “Fantastic Four” released in 2005 and its sequel “Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer” in 2007. Most recently, he appeared in the ill-fated Netflix drama “The Residence,” which was canceled after its first season.
His filmography also includes other projects such as “The Surfer” alongside Nicolas Cage in 2024, as well as “Paranoia” released in 2013, “You’re Not You” in 2014, and “Swinging Safari” in 2018.
McMahon’s personal life saw him navigate high-profile relationships. He was previously married to Australian singer Dannii Minogue from 1994 to 1995. He later wed actress Brooke Burns in 1999, with whom he shares a daughter, Madison Elizabeth McMahon. The couple parted ways in 2001. In 2014, he found love again, marrying Kelly Paniagua.
Notably, McMahon made his final public appearance on March 10, 2025, at the SXSW Film & TV Festival in Austin, Texas, where he promoted the film “The Surfer” alongside Cage.
Julian McMahon achieved much during his lifetime, leaving behind a legacy marked by his dedication to his craft and the joy he brought to fans and loved ones alike. His contributions to film and television will continue to resonate in the industry for years to come.
As his family grieves this profound loss, those who adored his work are encouraged to celebrate McMahon’s remarkable contributions to entertainment and cherish the joy he created throughout his life.
