“The first day was nerve-racking; I’ve never felt anything like it, perhaps akin to the Republican National Convention times 30,” Kai recalled while riding in a golf cart with her aunt. She managed to control her nerves well on the first day but found a sense of relief on the second, stating, “The nerves weren’t as bad, and I felt I did really well. It turned out to be a great experience. I’m thankful for the opportunity.”

During this tournament, Kai recorded a first-round score of 83, placing her last among 108 participants. However, she showed resilience with a five-over 75 in her second round. Although it was not enough to advance to the weekend rounds, the experience was enriching.

Support from the Golf Community

Even though her results did not meet her expectations, prominent figures in the golfing community recognized her effort. LIV Golf star Bryson DeChambeau praised her ability to handle the pressure. “She shot five-over the second round, which is really impressive,” he remarked. DeChambeau continued, mentioning a conversation with tournament host Annika Sorenstam, who shared her thoughts on the significance of participating in such an event: “There are plenty of others that received invites and didn’t perform well, but every experience matters, and it’s likely this will be beneficial for her.”

I love the program, and I also didn’t want to be far away from home. I appreciate being back in Florida,” she explained.

She intends to enhance her skills over the next four years at the university while pursuing opportunities to play in other LPGA events whenever possible. Kai articulated her goals succinctly: “I’m going to go to college for four years at the University of Miami and play golf for them. Following that, I hope to turn pro. It sounds easier said than done, but that’s the plan.”
