Former Vice President Kamala Harris is preparing for the release of her new memoir titled 107 Days, and she is drawing on Democratic Party-linked fundraising operations for marketing support.
Reports indicate that the Harris Victory Fund, which serves both the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign interests, sent out promotional emails related to the book without soliciting donations for the DNC.
This strategy has sparked discussions about party neutrality, particularly as Harris is a potential candidate in the upcoming 2028 election. With President Donald Trump set to leave office after his second term ends, both major political parties are gearing up for fierce primary battles.
According to the DNC, it did not directly send the email, and it is permissible for party email lists to be used for book promotions if properly compensated. Confirmation from Fox News Digital reinforced that the DNC did not engage in sending the promotional email.
Kirsten Allen, a spokesperson for Harris, noted that the use of the email list adhered to Federal Election Commission regulations.
The decision to leverage the Democratic base for book sales signifies Harris’s intent to connect with her supporters while promoting a memoir that reflects on her brief and intense campaign beginning in the summer of 2024, following President Biden’s exit from the race after early state contests.
In a video announcing the book on July 31, Harris described the campaign experience as “intense, high-stakes, and deeply personal for me and for so many of you. Since leaving office, I’ve spent a lot of time reflecting on those days.”
Her book is expected to provide insights into her campaign journey, much like previous political figures who published works recounting their election experiences. Notable is Hillary Clinton’s 2016 release, What Happened, detailing her loss to Trump.
Recently, Harris also made headlines by announcing her decision not to pursue the governorship of California in 2026. This move has prompted speculation about her ambitions for the presidency in 2028. Harris previously entered the 2020 presidential race but suspended her campaign in December 2019.
“For now, my leadership—and public service—will not be in elected office. I look forward to getting back out and listening to the American people, helping elect Democrats across the nation who will fight fearlessly, and sharing more details in the months ahead about my own plans,” Harris stated last month.
Harris’s announcement not only clarified her political intentions but also unofficially launched the competition to succeed Governor Gavin Newsom, who will be leaving office. A multitude of Democrats are already positioning themselves for this opportunity.
As for the potential 2028 presidential race, several names have surfaced as possible Democratic contenders, including Newsom, Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, and Maryland Governor Wes Moore. On the Republican side, Trump hinted that Vice President JD Vance could be leading the field.
“I think most likely. In all fairness, he’s the vice president, and I think Marco is also somebody that maybe would get together with JD in some form,” Trump remarked on Tuesday, discussing the dynamics of the Republican race. “It’s too early, obviously, to talk about it, but certainly he’s doing a great job.”
The implications of Harris’s book promotion strategy speak volumes about the current dynamics within the Democratic Party. While her utilization of party resources aligns with established norms, it also raises questions about conflicts of interest as she navigates her political future amid a crowded field of 2028 hopefuls.
Furthermore, the conventional practice of former politicians releasing memoirs reveals not only personal narratives but also strategic positioning as they seek to maintain their relevance and influence within political circles.
The decision to engage the Democratic base for her book promotion could signify an attempt to reinforce alliances and cultivate support, essential for any future candidacy. Harris’s narrative of her brief presidential bid is likely to resonate with many party loyalists, who may view her insights as both cautionary and inspirational.
As the landscape of the Democratic Party evolves, it grapples with internal divisions and the pressing need for unity going forward. The upcoming primaries will not only be pivotal for Harris but also for all potential candidates vying for the Democratic nomination.
The shifting political dynamics invite a closer examination of how established politicians manage their legacies while navigating electoral challenges. Harris’s memoir is positioned not just as a personal reflection but also as a strategic tool in her evolving political narrative.
Ultimately, her ability to connect with voters and address their concerns will be crucial, regardless of the political office she decides to pursue in the future.
Fox News Digital has reached out to the DNC and Allen for further comments, underscoring the ongoing scrutiny of decisions made within party circles as candidates anticipate the political battles ahead.
