Katy Perry Prepares for an Epic Journey as Part of All-Female Blue Origin Mission

Katy Perry is excitedly preparing for her groundbreaking journey into space. The acclaimed singer is set to board Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin rocket on April 14 as part of an all-female crew that is poised to make history.

The mission includes notable figures such as Lauren Sanchez, the fiancée of Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, talk-show host Gayle King, film producer Kerianne Flynn, NASA rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and civil rights activist Amanda Nguyen. Together, they will participate in a flight that will last approximately 11 minutes, launching 62 miles above Earth to the edge of our atmosphere, without reaching orbit.

Training for a Historic Journey

As reported, Perry and her crew will undergo their final training sessions at the Blue Origin launch site in Van Horn, Texas, just days before the flight. This vital preparation will include getting fitted for custom flight suits and adapting to the flight capsule—a moment they will cherish as they see their designated seats for the first time.

Final training will also introduce the crew to zero-gravity simulations, allowing them to acclimate to the sensation of weightlessness they will experience during the journey. Blue Origin staff will guide the crew through the capsule’s layout, identifying camera locations and oxygen masks while ensuring they know how to communicate effectively with ground control.

Blue Origin representative Sarah Knights emphasized the importance of comfort and familiarity, stating that the goal is for every crew member to feel entirely at ease inside the vehicle. They aim to prepare for photo opportunities and ensure they capture memorable moments of their space journey.

Glamorous Preparations and Personal Touches

Recently, Perry and her crew shared their excitement during an interview with Elle, discussing their plans for the flight and how they intend to embrace style. Perry humorously expressed her desire to bring glam to space, stating, “Space is going to finally be glam. Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the ‘a–‘ in astronaut.”

The uniqueness of this mission lies not only in its all-female crew but also in the personal items each crew member plans to bring aboard the rocket. Each passenger is allowed items weighing up to three pounds. Perry plans to take something alive, as a reminder of Earth’s beauty, while Sanchez, in playful spirits, intends to bring a stuffed animal. Gayle King has chosen to carry photos and mementos of her grandson, though she also expressed a wish for musical entertainment during the flight.

Creating a Space Playlist

Perry is curating a playlist to get her in the right mood for the experience. She has included tracks by influential artists like David Bowie and Nicki Minaj, among others. Reflecting on her inspiration, she shared, “I’m making a space playlist right now, actually. I’m calling it so far the ‘Space Sistas.’”

The diverse selections demonstrate Perry’s creative approach to an unparalleled experience. Songs like “Planet Claire” by the B-52s and “Starman” by David Bowie are set to accompany the crew as they embark on their historic flight.

Breaking Barriers in Space

This upcoming mission marks a significant milestone, as it will be the first all-women crew to launch into space since Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova completed her solo mission in 1963. Perry’s crew has embraced this aspect, recognizing the importance of representation. Amanda Nguyen highlighted the significance by stating, “This dichotomy of engineer and scientist and then beauty and fashion. We contain multitudes. Women are multitudes.”

Perry reflected on her excitement when she learned she would be part of this groundbreaking mission, recounting how it has been a lifelong dream. She shared, “I have wanted to go to space for almost 20 years. I was investigating all of the possible commercial options. Even when Blue Origin was first talking about commercial travel to space, I was like, ‘Sign me up! I’m first in line.'”

Furthermore, she dedicated her upcoming flight to her daughter, Daisy, sharing her desire to inspire the next generation and showcase that anyone can pursue their dreams regardless of their background.

The Journey Ahead

While some in the crew may have reservations about the risks associated with space travel, Perry maintains a calm demeanor. She emphasized her focus on the mission, declaring, “I don’t have any time to be nervous; I ain’t got time to be worried. We’ve got stuff to do. We’ve got business to handle.”

Sanchez articulated a similar mindset, reminding the crew of their shared motto that encourages tackling fears. “Life takes off on the other side of fear,” she stated, adding a sense of camaraderie among the group.

As preparations continue, the excitement among crew members is palpable. They are enthusiastic about not only their mission but also the message of empowerment and breaking barriers they represent as women in a field historically dominated by men.

Inspiring Future Generations

Perry concluded her reflections on the mission with a determination to inspire others. She expressed, “I’m flying for my daughter, Daisy, to inspire her to never have limits on her dreams and show her that any type of person can reach their dreams — no matter your background, your ethnicity, your economic situation or your education level.”

This historic journey into space is a testament to the strength, resilience, and unity of women, making waves not only in the realm of space exploration but also in society at large. As the all-female crew prepares for their stunning ascent into the cosmos, they embody hope and progress for future generations.
