Overview of Karen Read’s Defense Strategy
Karen Read’s team of attorneys is gearing up to challenge the prosecution’s murder case following the state’s recent conclusion of its arguments. Read stands accused of killing her boyfriend, Boston Police Officer John O’Keefe, outside a house party shortly after midnight on January 29, 2022.
The prosecution claims that Read, in a drunken state, struck O’Keefe with her 2021 Lexus SUV after a night of altercations. They assert that she then left him to freeze to death in the front yard of a residence on Fairview Road.
Prosecution’s Last Witness and Key Testimony
The state rested its case this past Thursday, approximately two months into the trial, with Special Prosecutor Hank Brennan presenting his final witness. Dr. Judson Welcher, a crash reconstruction expert, testified over three days about his findings that support the state’s position that Read fatally collided with O’Keefe’s vehicle.
