FIRST ON FOX: In a statement to Fox News Digital, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem declared that Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues to take action against criminal illegal immigrants throughout the United States. She criticized politicians in sanctuary states for their refusal to cooperate with law enforcement efforts, labeling their actions as attempts to obstruct justice.
Noem emphasized that during the past year, significant progress has been made under President Donald Trump. She pointed out that the administration has been committed to eliminating the most dangerous criminal illegal immigrants from American communities, despite the resistance posed by these sanctuary politicians.
“In one year, we have seen President Trump fulfill his promise to remove the worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from our streets,” Noem stated. “Our ongoing efforts are hampered by the lack of support from sanctuary politicians and activists who actively obstruct law enforcement operations, which is both a felony and a federal crime.”
Noem reported that the Department of Homeland Security has successfully removed over 670,000 illegal immigrants in the last year alone. This figure reportedly includes individuals convicted of severe crimes such as murder, sexual offenses, and gang-related activities.
Just recently, immigrant enforcement agents arrested individuals involved in serious offenses, including pedophilia and drug trafficking. “Yesterday, ICE apprehended individuals linked to heinous crimes, including pedophiles and domestic abusers,” Noem noted. “The more arrests that our agency completes, the greater the number of self-deportations we observe—over 2 million so far, marking what I believe is the beginning of a golden age for America.”
In her statement, Noem detailed a new wave of arrests conducted by ICE, showcasing the agency’s focus on serious offenders. Among those apprehended was Uriel Hernandez-Betancourt, an illegal immigrant from Mexico with a past conviction for indecent liberties with a child in North Carolina.
Parede Zuniga, originating from Guatemala, also faced arrest and has prior convictions for distributing cocaine in Virginia.
Additionally, Lucio Valdovinos from Mexico was arrested for domestic violence and had numerous driving under the influence charges on his record in California. Another individual, Lorenzo Aviles-Macedo, faced charges for inflicting corporal injury on a spouse and DUI convictions in Los Angeles.
Amidst the ongoing debate, some Democrats have criticized the Trump administration for allegedly detaining migrants without prior criminal backgrounds. However, the Department of Homeland Security countered these claims, asserting that approximately 70% of illegal immigrants arrested by ICE had criminal convictions or pending charges at the time of their apprehensions.
For the remaining 30% who did not have any criminal histories in the United States, the DHS noted that it remains ambiguous how many might be wanted for crimes in their home countries or by international law enforcement agencies such as INTERPOL.
